I thought it was a great suspense film and it was not until thirty years later that I discovered that the director was Steven Spielberg. With a minimal cast, Duel keeps one glued to the big screen demonstrating SS's skill that led to his great career.
accrington fan wrote:funny mentioning a B fillum or a second feature as they were called. Usually not much more than one hour in length there was less padding out and kept you interested unlike some long drawn out main feature did. back in the days of only having 2 channels to watch i remember an old fil director being interviwed who stated even back then there was research into how long the average person can concentrate in the cinema. it was more or less 90 minutes which is possibly why most lasted about that long at the time.

That's one possible explanation. The other is that each reel of 35mm film used for cinema projection lasted about 45 minutes. 90 minutes or a bit less became the standard fillum length because it was cost effective - it had to be a film by big-name director or a Biblical epic to justify the expense of going longer
JohnnyMars wrote:I recently went to watch Killers of the Flower Moon which is three and a half hours long - while it’s a decent film it is way too long in my opinion. I was thinking of going to see Napoleon which is two hours and forty minutes but it doesn’t get great reviews.
They do it to give their films a bit of extra credence and make the public think they are watching a classic rather than a standard offering. I’m not sure they always live up to it though.

There's a few good 'uns in there - so there should be if you pick 10![]()
Training Day - one of Denzil Washington's best, along with Flight, but he's worth watching in every film he makes.

Realistic? Every shot from a cannon in the entire fillum is explosive. You'd don't have to read much about Napoleonic warfare to know that roundshot (solid cannon balls) was used far more frequently in battles. It's the usual Hollywood stuff - lots of big bangs (but enough about Josesphine's bedroom) and gimmicks like an entire army disappearing under a frozen lake. Last time I saw that it was a horde of nasty Anglo-Saxons chasing King Arthur's brave lads.
