I agree with this, hadn't seen it until this came out but it's a good question.

I give up honestly I do. I accept that the general intent may have not been racist but the inability of people to even do the slightest research to understand why it does offend some and likening it to Oompa Loompah's and Smurfs is unbelievable.
Are people really that fucking ignorant? We know the answer sadly. But apparently that makes me a do gooder
Mute Witness wrote:Just listened to the BBC Tees interview with John Walter Mitty Shithead. I understand his explanation of Bob Marley but I feel as soon it became apparent there was an issue the club should have made it clear blacking up was not to be involved. People like Manor Lad threatening to black up has caused concern and it's spiralled into what we have now.
I never read anywhere on here where anybody accused them of being racist, just people concerned of what could happen and how it could be perceived.
We were always going to have some idiots blacking up and some idiots threatened to dress up as rasta bananas. They may not have been part of the fancy dress group connected with John Pearsons but the fact some people were threatening to do this meant something needed to be said and Kick It Out are 100% correct to issue a statement.
It's just a shame Pools waited for Kick It Out before issuing a statement. The moment Hartlepool found themselves deleting comment after comment on the facebook page was the moment they should have acted. Why they didn't, only they can answer. If the organisers intentions were to have a tribute to Bob Marley I don't blame them, I don't blame Kick It Out or even the people who complained. I 100% blame Pools.
The only explanation I can come up with why they didn't nip it in the bud was to play fans against each other so fans would argue, blame certain forums and maybe to ignite an opposing supporters trust as many of the people on this forum have organised the supporters trust.
I guess we'll never know but we all need to stick together and not incidents like this tear us apart.

He referred to it as the last spiteful act of a regime that wants us to disappear, or reappear as 'saviours' again.
I'm not so sure I agree, but it was a very well articulated argument !

I am genuinely staggered that some people don't appreciate the difference between the two situations. I can only assume that the ignorance is feigned.

You would of thought Pools might of asked them before publicly backing it!

And I think you'll find Sol Campbell wearing white face was meant to be controversial. It reminds black voters of the inequalities and prejudices they have fought and the importance of having a political voice to aid change.

Right so in that case what is wrong with that? Seems like a good point to me

Slipped my mind that. Victoria park is a hugely diverse crowd. Maybe one was African, the other Indian, one Pakastani and maybe an Inuit and an aboriginal as well?

And that there in lies the problem! If we where a team in bham London etc it wouldn't be an issue but we are from a out post in north east where people already think we a out of touch. This just adds fuel to fire.
