I agree with this, hadn't seen it until this came out but it's a good question.

No idea, don't think anyone on here can answer that.

Two wrongs don't make a right though...

Just been reading the FB page, sweet baby Jesus and the orphans......it's everyone else's fault and the worlds gone mad/country going to the dogs etc etc.

I give up honestly I do. I accept that the general intent may have not been racist but the inability of people to even do the slightest research to understand why it does offend some and likening it to Oompa Loompah's and Smurfs is unbelievable.

Are people really that fucking ignorant? We know the answer sadly. But apparently that makes me a do gooder

I think it's more thick than ignorant in some cases with regards to comparing it to oompa lumpas, smurfs and penguins.

Just listened to the BBC Tees interview with John Walter Mitty Shithead. I understand his explanation of Bob Marley but I feel as soon it became apparent there was an issue the club should have made it clear blacking up was not to be involved. People like Manor Lad threatening to black up has caused concern and it's spiralled into what we have now.

I never read anywhere on here where anybody accused them of being racist, just people concerned of what could happen and how it could be perceived.

We were always going to have some idiots blacking up and some idiots threatened to dress up as rasta bananas. They may not have been part of the fancy dress group connected with John Pearsons but the fact some people were threatening to do this meant something needed to be said and Kick It Out are 100% correct to issue a statement.

It's just a shame Pools waited for Kick It Out before issuing a statement. The moment Hartlepool found themselves deleting comment after comment on the facebook page was the moment they should have acted. Why they didn't, only they can answer. If the organisers intentions were to have a tribute to Bob Marley I don't blame them, I don't blame Kick It Out or even the people who complained. I 100% blame Pools.

The only explanation I can come up with why they didn't nip it in the bud was to play fans against each other so fans would argue, blame certain forums and maybe to ignite an opposing supporters trust as many of the people on this forum have organised the supporters trust.

I guess we'll never know but we all need to stick together and not incidents like this tear us apart.

I was speaking to someone on Thursday evening who is convinced that the club are very much behind the whole thing to cause a shitstorm and render us 'un-buyable'

He referred to it as the last spiteful act of a regime that wants us to disappear, or reappear as 'saviours' again.

I'm not so sure I agree, but it was a very well articulated argument !

That's ok then, 2 wrongs make a right and we can all go blacking up because Sol Campbell whited up.

Regardless of any action/non action against him the point still stands.

Very soon the UKplc will ban satire and wipe all past episodes of "Spitting Image" and anything from the 1970s which now contravenes the new Liberalised 'British Values' laws.

I am genuinely staggered that some people don't appreciate the difference between the two situations. I can only assume that the ignorance is feigned.

Exactly, furthermore I think you'll find Sol Campbell wearing white face was meant to be controversial. It reminds black voters of the inequalities and prejudices they have fought and the importance of having a political voice to aid change.

Absolutely, stuff like is bang out so that's fair enough and as you say totally different circumstances, but why anyone would go grassing people up to kick it out, defies belief. I mean reporting people for something where no 'offence' has been committed is incredible.

Bad grasses is all they are. Jumping on the bandwagon to show themselves as more cultured and accepting than "the rest of 'em".

If anyone wants to write a letter to the FA asking for a ban on fancy dress feel free, but until then, get a life.

Can we go back a few weeks to when this idea was originally revealed and look at the thread n people did say this wouldn't go down well.

So yeah it's proving it won't go down well

Slipped my mind that. Victoria park is a hugely diverse crowd. Maybe one was African, the other Indian, one Pakastani and maybe an Inuit and an aboriginal as well?

"Bad grasses" ROFL

Maybe they had concerns that Pools were clearly ignoring and didn't want the embarrassment of people blacking up at the game.

Surely you know you are wrong when Collymore supports you!

And that there in lies the problem! If we where a team in bham London etc it wouldn't be an issue but we are from a out post in north east where people already think we a out of touch. This just adds fuel to fire.

I just think why even do something that people can abuse and can do wrong. 99 out of 100 people might go in just wigs but 1 goes blacked up then u got a problem.

Why even bother?

What's he doing next year BBC top of the pops presenters from the 60 n 70s?

Welsh emo bands from the early millennium?

Can't help but think this is all planned

If the dress code had been Minnions or any of 100's of other ideas the last 3 weeks shit-storm would not have happened

Everybody would have been looking forward to it. The BBC, an anti racism organisation, the general media etc etc
Would not have been involved

Just saying !!!

Can appreciate that.

At the end of the day, for me the problem is that there was never any intention to go blacked up, people jumped to conclusions and the hysteria that arose because of it has led the odd one or two to defend "the freedom of paint".

I don't believe anyone will go blacked up.
