Given his goal scoring/assists record in the EFL and NL I can't see him being valued at £100k. Its a risk that a signing club might not be prepared to take. A guide would be how much we paid for the lad from Barnet. The league will know even if we don't.

He never looks fully fit to me and is too easily pushed off the ball. The only thing going for him is his age, and the fact he might improve and get fit.

He spent most of last season stuck out wide right or wide left - not his best position at all, especially wide left. Cleary came in and showed how it was done. Blame the second or third-rate managers we had last term.

got a point there. that was his best part of his career with us but managers were obsessed by the manni/ madine partnership that never came off. however players need to fill in the gaps caused with injuries and he was not the only player asked to do a job they were not at there best doing.

And let's not forget his goal v Blackpool to set up a Palace money spinner for you know who.
When fully fit which he will get back to and in a decent team he will be Awesome.

If this is true I guess it is no surprise. York could afford a fee but of course it will all depend if he performs well enough in the trial games. Is he good enough? That is the crux.
PTID wrote:If that's true it would suggest there's very little interest in him. Would've thought York would know enough about him to not need him convinced them in trial games.
Can see him ending up at Gateshead or coming back here capable in hand yet.

That's disappointing if true- may as well have stayed at Pools

Maybe, but he'd be on a bigger wage at York and I'm pretty sure they'll be in League 2 next season. It's a stepping stone of sorts.

Why are others not seeing this basic strategy

but where does this leave joe himself. wants away but at this moment of time he cannot get away. then what do pools actually do. will they help him by waving what might be owing to them to help the lad get what he wants or force him back with us being his only option. expect the club to atte,pt to screw every penny they can get out of him and not help his career to be left with a player on the books who does not want to be here. not actually encouraging young lads in the future to come to pools is it.

If nobody wants to pay the compo he'll have three options.
1. Take a break from football and do summat else.
2. Sign a contract at Pools
3. Play outside of England.

surely there should be an option 4 somewhere for a player in the same boat as him. we have had the bosman ruling that has cost clubs thousands over the years and what next. knowing pools they,ll get even more bad publicity if EUFA or FIFA bring in the Grey ruling for future players in a similar position.
PTID wrote:Can't see anyone paying the compo, he's not really shown himself worthy of effectively a fee to be fair.
Wonder how much compo Barnsley will need to pay WBA for Cleary. Apparently Cleary made it known he was leaving WBA so they made him an offer to make sure they get something for him.

Meanwhile Joe has no income. Dunno if he still lives with family, if not he will have bills to pay.

I saw a bloke who looked like him in a tent on the waste ground near the Vic?

Well I watched most of Yorks friendly v Garforth Town on YouTube yesterday and didn't notice Grey playing, btw York lost 1-0 to a comical goal and were really poor from what I saw, Garforth were all over them second half and should have scored more.
