A TEENAGER suffered serious head injuries in a late-night incident outside a pub.
The 19-year-old, who was on a night out in Hartlepool, suffered the injuries outside Jax Bar in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of Hartlepool where his condition is described as serious.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "A 19-year-old man suffered serious head injuries in a possible assault and was taken to the University Hospital of Hartlepool but then transferred to the James Cook University Hospital.
"It followed an incident outside Jax Bar, in Stockton Street, where there was some kind of altercation.
"Police were telephoned by ambulance crews and they sealed off the area, which was a walkway between Jax Bar and Wilkinson."
A man in his early 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of assault, which allegedly took place between midnight and 1.30am on Sunday morning.
The manager of Jax Bar, Gary Anderson, said CCTV footage had been handed to police.
Scenes of crime officers were yesterday carrying out investigations near to the Stockton Street exit of Middleton Grange Shopping Centre.
One woman, who had been enjoying a night out in Jax Bar, told the Mail: "The police locked everyone in at about 2am. They wouldn't let anyone out - you had to queue up to get out.
"As they did let you out, one policeman was taking details, while another photographed everybody. It was the end of the night anyway, so we all just did as we were told."
Police are today continuing with their inquiries into the incident outside Jax Bar.
