I noticed withMerrick back between the sticks Thompson was not even on the bench with the Fisher being the sub goalie. Anyone know what is happening with Thompson? I reckon most Poolies would rate him well above Fisher so why wasnt he on the bench instead? He was on a short term contract but surely he did enough to earn a deal at least till Christmas. Merrick is a top class keeper but he does seem to have niggling injuries and relying on Fisher as back up fills me with dread.

I’d be disappointed if Thompson has been released.
Think he deserved keeping till the end of the season, even as backup.
I can’t think of any major mistakes he made and I was happy with him between the sticks.

Exactly. Hopefully we will hear something about this sooner rather than later. It would be crazy to bin him and keep Fisher.

hate ro even see the name fisher on the bench. if he is the only option we might be better not naming a sub keeper and shove an outfielder in if the keeper gets crocked. wonder if basildon bondo could do better in the sticks.

I’ve just watched the highlights of Chelsea v Spurs and the replacement for Martinez (broken jaw) called Penders dropped a right clanger. Hopefully they don’t recall Merrick…

i,d guess there will be a few more infront of him knowing the number of kids these premier league teams have in all positions. carwright was not exactly 3rd choice hull keeper last season as doncaster had an hull loanee keeper as well who would have been further up there ladder.

Give Thompson a contract and sort out this weak spot in the team.
Fisher is not the answer…the lad might come good later, but we can’t afford to take such an avoidable risk.

at least with thompson we can rely on him and will actually push merrick for the starting spot. with fisher it means he,d be playing whether in form or not. you have back up for other positions so why not a keeper.

I am guessing that Fisher was signed to be the back up keeper until it has become clear, he is nowhere near up to the job. We signed some decent players in the summer but evidence suggests he was not one of them. Sign Thompson and loan out Fisher.

its back to the old discussion yet again about pools and there own keepers being second rate and the only good ones we get now are loanees. has the club given up on having one who will be good enough to be around for years.

In my opinion, Thompson could be one. No doubt others will have different opinions.

Thompson has done a good job and deserves to be at least backup.

Agree. I’ve been very impressed by Merrick but if for some reason he’d been called back to Chelsea and we’d been having to use Thompson for the rest of the season I wouldn’t have been hugely concerned.

As I’ve said previously, I feel a bit for Fisher as his confidence must have been in bits after the 10-0 mauling in the cup game and successive defeats when he was threw into the first team.

IMO He’s not ready to play first team for us. Whether he ever will be is up for debate but at the current stage of his development he’s shouldn’t even be our number two keeper. Get the lad out on loan for regular football and who knows, a year or two down the line he’ll hopefully come good.

Smith's between the sticks tonight against Fylde. Apparently Merrick is having his game time limited by Chelsea as they monitor his comeback from injury. Fisher and Thompson Ill/injured. We're on the bones of our arse goalkeeping wise.

The Merrick deal is beginning to look like a hindrance rather than an asset, he’s good when he appears, but that’s the problem…when he actually appears…l not an ideal situation at all.

We a badly run team.
But the main man seems well happy to produce more off field jobs.

Time to focus on the green grass. As the 5th division table shows.

Patience has a timescale unless your a Poolie.
