It hasn't gone unnoticed that Dave Challinor has made an appearance in our vicinity again, albeit only as a commentator.
Is it just co incidence or is there something behind it.
Could he be testing the temperature of the water to see what sort of reception his return would get.
Well speaking for myself, Dave. Get your arse over here and offer your services, you are extremely welcome to return.
Come on Landon I think he is itching to come back and finish the job he started. I think you need to explore the possibility and if this opportunity is realistically available, please don't waste it.

I would be behind this appointment. I know he wanted a break from football management but you never know!

Fans calling for DC to come back, are in cloud cuckoo land for three reasons:

He’s way above NL level

Why would he risk his reputation with the chance that he might fail to turn it around ?

He wouldn’t work under the likes of Maxwell and Beech. One has no management experience whatsoever and the other has been a failed manager at other clubs with an overall win % of 31%. Clayton has virtually no management experience btw.

I would expect DC to insist on how he wants to do things. Chairman, Manager, Players

Also remember he left Pools to go back down to NL level with Stockport.
If he has a soft spot for Pools then why not!

Soft spot till he was offered substantially more money than Pools were prepared to offer plus every night in his own bed, managers are mercenary. On saying that I would love him back at Pools but I think he is sitting back hoping for a managers job higher than the NL,it’s not as if he will be skint.
If and it’s a big if he ever come back to Pools I imagine he would run the club his way and certain members of staff would ‘disposed’ of.

Don’t be surprised if Clarke is binned and Clayton steps up.
Hope not, but it’s highly likely, because its the cheapest option and Clayton already passed the Bromby profile test.

It sounds like chaos….if Clark goes, the rest should go as well, anything else would be like moving around the deck chairs on the Titanic.

I think if Clark is given his P45, chris beech will be given it until someone else is appointed. That is unless the club have had a bit of sense and have already been sounding someone else out.

You mean Bromby sounding some one else out, if I was Smith I wouldn’t touch any of Brombys recommendations with a barge pole after recommending Clark.

Well there is one surefire way to find out if DC is interested or not........ask the fucka. That is all I'm basically asking when I say explore the possibility.
He is a free agent so no toes will be tread on.
If he agreed to come back it wouldn't be to get rich or enhance his reputation, it would be for love of the club, which cements him firmly as one of us.
Go ask him FFS.

It come across when asked about the vacant Preston job.
That he would Deffo take it if offered.

Don't think he would drop down to division 5 again and why should he wirh his excellent cv.

They say money talks... Landon Smith would have to talk an insanely large amount of money (including a new signings kitty) to get DC back at the Vic. Can't see it, unfortunately.

Hopefully somebody will give him Stuart Maynard's number. LS could afford him on the money he saves from paying off Bromby & Partners!

I doubt Preston will come in for him, too many high profile names being mentioned.

Wigan and Doncaster both struggling in League One. I could see those being in for him soon. We would have no chance. Plus his main reason for leaving (apart from the money) was being back in the north West. Think that’s why he was commentating because Altrincham and Halifax are both near his home.

All this speculation and opinion is all very well and perfectly understandable and, if the truth were known most of it will probably turn out to be right, sadly. However there is still no other surefire way of finding out if he would consider coming back and that is to ask the man.
Nothing ventured nothing gained.
You never know.
He's not going to bite anyone, unless we send Raj to ask him.
Stranger things have happened at sea as our esteemed friend Snowy will be only too willing to tell us.

Ah…did I inadvertently mention the goat, the haggis… and the vacuum cleaner incident …I was the one who said ‘and what’s going on here then?’

Thought I heard him say he has commentated on 2 games, both games producing red cards, classing himself as a bit of a Jonah.

DC has proved that he is capable of managing at a higher level than down here. There will be a sacking in the championship which will open the door for him to move up and good luck to him. As much as I would like him to sort us out, has a re-appointment ever worked out for us?

Did he say on Radio Tees the other night that Antony Sweeney was still not interested in becoming a Manager or did I hear him incorrectly?

its about time we forget the bloke and consign him to one of the better parts of our history. we are sounding like some lasses whose blokes have dumped them and refuse to move on. he,d have to be really despirate for a crust moving after taking a league 1 club into the play offs two years on the trot to frop down a couple of divisions to s struggling nat.league club.

Why should we forget him or consign him to history. He is the only man in history to get us promoted into the football league, he is also out of work (in the managerial sense), therefore it surely has to be on our lips "I wonder if he might come back" and you never know he might be asking himself "I wonder if they'll have me back".
All we have to do is ask him. If no one at the club fancies asking him, I'll volunteer to do it FFS. Because if I was in Landon's shoes that is exactly what I'd do. I would have sounded him out at the point he decided to quit Stockport.
He can only say no. Then we can forget about the idea. For now.
What is difficult about the idea??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

the difficulty is that his ship has long since sailed and he,d be looking for a much bigger and better port than pools to moor. his problems have not changed since the day he walked out mainly being a homebird for the north west. a few more quid and pools moving across country would have seen him stay put. who next, checking up what pep and jose are doing or get LS to get a top yank football coach to fly over to be our saviour. there are a few decent lasses on the box i,d love to have on my arm but i aint asking any of them as i know my level. some should know our present level and its not what any of us want but cannot do anything about it.

We know all that but it is not absolute is it, it is speculation. To get absolute you simply have to contact the guy and ask him straight up, is he interested.
That is not difficult is it????
We are not talking about pep or any other big name, we are talking about DC, who has already had success here.
As for your analogy about ladies off the Tele.
As they say faint heart never won fair Lady but if you dilly dally over actually asking a girl and don't actually take the plunge and try, no wonder you get nowhere.

All it will take is a simple phone call from Landon asking if he is interested in listening to the possibility of coming back and DC will either say yes or no
Then we know 100% what the score is, instead of searching for speculative reasons why we shouldn't ask him.

Absolutely, it's a no brainer. No matter how remote we all think of the possibility, it is well worth trying it out. That is all I am asking.
I can't for the life of me understand any Poolie not at least wanting to try.

I don't suppose we'll ever know who is being considered let alone approached.
Challinor has an excellent CV since he came to us and I can't see him wanting to put that on the line for a div 5 club that goes through managers at the rate of 2 per season over the last decade.
Far more likely it'll be someone like Beech or from a division below imo. What it surely can't be is someone who's not managed for a number of years again. Thankfully LL has left the building.

What we want, and the Wheel Tappers and Shunters of football Committee want, will I suspect be far removed from anyone’s ideal choice of manager………another 10 matches under Beech is more likely and the joyous start to the season will turn to a humiliating scramble to steady a wobbling ship.
I’d like to be proved wrong, but not hopeful.
The manager is the most important person at any club, will they ever learn.

somebody in there 30,s will know the game well and is young enough to have ambition and energy. older you get the less energy you have as we have seen all too well and have nothing to prove as they have done it all in the past. you fo not need to be close ot past retirement age to have experiance when you are learning every day.
