Burnham was no big shakes under Blair and Brown, always on the periphery of Government.
It’s a sad state of affairs when a Party with a landslide of MP’s could not find a replacement within its own ranks for Starmer.
Burnham is a faded Blair/ Brown tribute act…he enters office of PM like someone trying to single handidly cross the Atlantic on an airbed.
I reckon he’ll go with what’s popular with the majority of his MP’s.

No need to as although he was offered security similar to Badenoch but turned it down saying it was inadequate.

TBH I am not enthused by Burnham, he is just another one who has never had a job outside of politics, his hands will be tied by the backbenchers, it will be interesting to see how he does on the global stage facing up to Trump etc ?

labour are the ones who shout the loudest about about DEI or DIE as i call it, but seems to be the party who wants a white man at the top.

Double standards again, Burnham shouldn't be criticised because "he's not even in the chair yet" but Farage is fair game yet he's infinitely further from being in that chair?
Burnham knows that actually he does need quick fixes otherwise he and the Labour party are toast. He also knows he needs to disassociate himself from most of Starmer's cock ups which means changing policy significantly, for which he's got a host of rebellious back-benchers and no mandate.
No easy task and popularism alone won't see him lasting long.

On the BBC website that he could be raising the tax threshold from £12570.

Which would massively benefit low paid workers and state pensioners which we all turn into if we lucky enough to live that long..

Probably drive the southerners to Farage n Reform.

Like a previously said there's got to be a positive from the Autumn Budget for us up North.

Bring it on be a modern day Robin Hood.
Fuck the super rich.

Or he could do what the previous PMs have done and get that cushy £125000 a year pension for the rest of their lives.

UTP.

Them backbenchers are hanging out him at the moment to keep their easy jobs.
This Autumn budget will be very interesting.

Because all your money, savings, pensions etc are linked to the markets, the markets collapse so does the value of your pensions, savings etc.

Sorry to disappoint you PTID there is no quick fix no matter what party is in power, wealth inequality is becoming larger, Wealth inequality in the UK is stark and historically high, with the richest 50 families holding more combined wealth than the poorest 34 million people. The wealthiest 10% of households possess over half of the nation's total wealth, whereas the least wealthy 10% hold less than £16,500

There's no single quick fix but there's quick wins to be had and he needs to implement some soon. Tearing down some of the hundreds of quangos would save billions. Starting Rosebank and Jackdaw will re-energise Aberdeen and bring in tax revenue, raising tax thresholds will help create jobs, etc

Burnham obviously not impressed with most of Starmers cabinet, he's swung the axe quite brutally today, of course I'm not convinced that their replacements will be any better.

He's wants to raise the tax threshold but says it will be difficult in this current economic time.

So basically vote for me in the 29 election to get it in 2030.

The 5% vat on energy bills is getting scrapped from October.
A good early start.

He needs to look at the tax threshold on The State Pension, the majority of us paid into it via N.I. Contributions but now they are taking it back through income tax.

Roughly they only have to raise the threshold by £500 a year to avoid the SP becoming taxable.
And that helps low paid workers also.
Not by a massive amount but it all adds up.

Like I keep saying Gunna be an interesting Autumn budget.

Good point above. £500 isn’t much, it should have gone up by that much anyway.

Also, give students a fair deal - they are getting ripped off now. They sign up to contracts and then the government changes the rules. They were told/promised thresholds would move each year, but they have been frozen multiple times.

Pensioners and students easy targets though.
Scrap the Starmer Quangos including Great British Energy and they'll save billions on what are in the main vanity projects.
Good move getting the mad man away from Energy and Green policy.
Surprised he's brought so many rules and law breakers back into senior positions.
As I've said, he's got to move quickly to make change that we can feel otherwise Labour are on countdown to political obscurity.

The biggest piss take is the £5 billion the energy companies reckon they are owed through customers refusing to pay.

Then that gets passed onto the good people who do pay.

Just cut them off and send the bailiffs around

The standing charge was introduced as a fixed daily fee to ensure that all energy consumers fairly share the unavoidable, non-energy costs required to keep homes connected to the gas and electricity grids.
For me it’s a back door way of increasing bills, it should be based on the percentage of the amount of energy you use.

These are the people who organised Burnhams coup…a case of Burnham rewarding those who brought down Starmer …?

These quick policy announcements remind of the Goodies. I still have a few of their 70s books hidden away at home from the 70s - in one of them the Goodies had started their own political party and had pamphlets etc…

One of the policies was “free beer for men” Another showed a photo of a saucy topless model with the policy “Men, you can have a woman like this. Women, you can have a body like this”

And now the inflation figures has been fiddled down to 2.6%.

Looking like Septembers figure will be 2.5% for the lowest triple lock SP rise in a while because these rising oil prices won't kick into the economy from October.

It's not looking good for the English who want to work.

I worked in Hull years ago and the Lada the old box type was the taxi drivers favourite car.
Didn’t Barry in Auf Wiedersehen Pet make his fortune importing/exporting Ladas albeit unbeknown to him they were full of drugs.

Lammy's Ministry of Justice was taking action to block a freedom of information request to publish the figures on migrant crime data from 2018-24.. Have they got something they don't want us to see?

If they don't publish the crime figure from migrants, people will only speculate and even then they will underestimate!

talk about causing a problem. if people fo not know anything they speculate and the figures you,ll get in the guardian will be lower than anywhere else. if you have nothing to hide tell us but they,ll have and another reason they are trying to keep on top of a situation that will eventually get out of hand.

No raising of the personal allowance is now being mooted. It should be around £17,000.
