Lee Clarke interview on You Tube. I get the impression that Redcar were a team of cloggers. He said the game left a nasty taste and there was a danger someone could have got seriouslyhurt. He said Popov was in the dressing room with a swollen ankle from repeated kicks and he was hoping it would settle down. Wondering if a match report will appear somewhere.

Yes, according to the commentary on The Red Radio the keeper was Nathan Fisher, 21-year-old with no experience of men's football released by the Boro this summer.

Doubt Recca will get another offer of a friendly from Pools any time soon. They forgot it was meant to be a pre-season workout for both teams and played like it was a cup tie they had to win.

I know I'm getting on a bit & my memory isn't as sharp as it was, but who is Thornton ( no 21 on McTee's list ) ?
Heard his name mentioned on the radio commentary, but can't see him anywhere on the squad lists ?

we might be better getting friendly games with clubs a bit further out of the area. there is les likely of some player having a gripe about pools.

Spennymoor on Saturday, ex players from both teams, hope it doesn’t turn into the same type of game as the one against Redcar.

There isn’t an official squad list published. The page on the official site has been removed. I’ve been keeping the Wikipedia page up to date with all the comings and goings though..

worse would be starting the season with a couple out injured for a few months. its not as if these things never happen to any club.

Didn't McGuckin break a Newcastle players leg with a bit of thuggery in a friendly? I recall Keegan being furious after the match and vowing never to bring a team back to the Vic for a friendly.

Yes in July 93, McGuckin's tackle on Mark Robinson did not go down too well with Keegan. Keegan vowed never to return but he actually did in 1995.

Sounds like Altrincham have had a similar "friendly" to us, an incident escalated to the point where their match was abandoned!!

From what there is to see, the trialist keeper and left back (Lundoloki) both did OK for us. Like the look of young Campbell Darcy in defence too.

Funny thing about Redcar being described as ‘local’…you can see the bloody place from the Headland, but drive to Newcastle quicker than get to Redcar.
