What's going on with managers referring to teams as "a group" or "this group" or "this group of players"?

Is calling them the team or squad (or lads) not ok any more?

I'm watching Rochdale making Boreham Wood look like an impotent attacking force, it's half time and in all of the clips that they've shown of team talks it's been "group, group, groupity, f'cking group".

Anyway, both groups of players have kicked of now so I'm off back to the telly...

And according to our leader his group/squad are not capable of playing attacking football.
Yet i,m watching Morecambe in the bottom 4 playing attacking football and deservedly leading at Ality

Watched the Rochdale game, still trying to figure out how we beat them cos they're different gravy to us. Made Boreham Wood look very ordinary.

The Rochdale Boreham Wood game just ended 4-1. Both teams (groups of players) playing entertaining football. Manni had a great game. No sign of the mercurial Mancini (so to be fair Brad Walker's been a like for like swap).

Manni took a sick day when we played them and they couldn't play at home so it was somewhere else (can't remember where).

Salford's ground. Manni was actually injured, he'd been out for two or three games prior to the visit of Pools so was genuinely not fit. Who knows what the outcome would have been if he had played.

Fellas stop!!!
If Fev reads this he'll be so scared he'll play with no attackers and it'll be 11 behind the ball in the hope of a clean sheet and breakaway goal.
Whatever the budgets and player pedigrees it's one group of players against another group of players, skill can be overcome through organisation, the right mindset, commitment and desire to win. We e been on the wrong end of it many times against teams we're expected to beat.
Down to the manager and players to either find a way to win games, or at least give us performances worthy of the commitment our fans give, if they won't or can't do that then we need to find a group that can / will.
We were nowhere near the best team (on paper) in the division when we reached play off finals under Cooper and Challinor, but we found a way to consistently get the results we needed over the course of a season achieving more than bigger budget teams.

I think we’re past the stage of even caring, simply because we’ve established the point that Featherstone’s tenure as ‘manager’ has proved his theory of football is far removed from lacking the the two essential ingredients of successful management by being neither entertaining or remotely successful..

As for the ‘group’ reference, managers are well known for a misplaced love of self promoting jargon, as they seek to make their jobs look more complicated than it really is….it’s called bullshit.

just as bad as the group is saying getting players into the building or when regaining fitness they have now got onto the grass. every job has its own jargon but usually its permanent without changes for something new.
