Just found out Spurs are the only non- league team to have won the F.A.Cup. That was way back in 1901 when in the southern non league.

Anyway, Tamworth join the ranks along with Market Harborough Town as teams burgled out of a replay. Spuds should remember where they came from, non league. Sad to see low attendances at Sunderland and Sheffield United as well, but it's just a harsh reminder of how far the cup has fallen. The pyramid change hasn't helped really, gone are the days of teams like Easington playing Chester City, Bedlington Terriers playing Colchester and Billingham Synthonia playing Lincoln, they'd just get knocked out by fellow Northern League teams or regional equivalents now.

Just a slight correction Leggie, Spurs were the last non league team to win the FA Cup not the first.

That's very interesting Mr Flag because according to the tv punters ( who can be wrong ) I sure they said only. The other team mentioned also southern non league was Southampton who they said got to 2 finals in a row and lost both in I believe 1899 & 1900.

A slight change of subject I recommend a Netflix programme called The English Game. It is a fascinating drama about the development of the game in the late 19th. century.

the cup has fallen due to a couple of reasons. winning it does not get a european place and playing at wembley has losts its appeal now semi finals are played there as well as 90 out of the 92 league teams having played there in recent memory. its typical pools that we get into two finals but circumstances deemed we had to play em somewhere else.

did ronnie radford score in that game against the mags. there must be at least one tv screen smashed in barrow every year the fa cup gets a mention by them losing there league status for what i feel was decided on that goal and game.

You do get a place in Europe now for winning the event if you're not already in it.

The decline is due to cash rewards - for Premier teams it is nothing compared to their TV rights and earnings from the League and Euro competitions. They only play in it because they have to, maybe quarters on it is interesting for them.

£££££ yet again, but which would the modern day younger fan actually prefers. A run in the FA Cup or one in some second or third rate european competition. Not one who goes on about the magic or the cup but i,d guess after being in it for a few seasons those euro competitions below the champions league could get a little boring in the end. Bit like pools getting to wembley in the trophy for the first time. there would be far less of an interest if we did it for a second especially if it was close to our first appearance when we had done it before.
