The Poolie Bunker

I'm afraid Landon has been hoodwinked by Bromby & Partners.
How can a consultancy firm of 'experts' get it so very wrong, the midfield has always been the issue for the last 2 seasons at least, so what do they do sign 2 prolific forwards who are now bit part players cos we don't have anyone who can drive forward from midfield and deliver a through ball.

It's hardly rocket science, Pools supporters could have told them where we needed to improve.

Now all the budget is gone and we are stuck with what we have in midfield.

Great Work!

Sheron hoofing the ball in the sky last night was vintage. Poor, poor team.

blame the pools fans. we should all have set themselves up as experts and become consultants. we might differ in some ways but not totally different. remember talking to a scout who never sat in the main stand but on the terraces to find out what the real fans thought about a player or there team. LS could have saved himself a lot of money if he had asked us lot.

I have noticed a few posters who very rarely post are now voicing their concerns about Pools currently, I hope Smith is reading the Bunker and takes notice as it’s not the usual half dozen posting.
Bromby, Clark and Clayton have no experience in the National League, Clark is the build of Dave Jones and a cross between Sarl and Hartley.
I doubt Challinor would return as he has set his sites on managing a Championship club, it doesn’t always work out with a manager returning plus he would want funds, the pot is empty Clark has said, it didn’t work out with Cooper second time round unfortunately.

I don’t think the problem is as bad as it looks. For me 2 attacking midfield loanees will solve the problem

Under the new regime we have tried to build a team to get us back into the EFL we have replaced the forward line improved the defence brought in a fantastic keeper but have left the engine room the same you don’t build a racing car and leave an underperforming unreliable engine in it because sure as night follows day you will not win anything

I agree they don’t even have to be spectacular players just able to pass a ball and a manager that plays his players in their best positions and doesn’t play old school football.

5 games in isn't time to write the season or manager and coaches off.
I agree a loanee or 2 and a change of tactics will make a big difference.

Clark has already said the budget has been spent not unless Smith loosens the purse strings.

Yes,it’s really that easy.
So where are we going to get these two from?

any of the 92 clubs in the league. remember cleary. its about contacts at other clubs and the ability to get the right men in. its just loanees are a bit of a hit and miss for all clubs as we know quite well.

If any of partners of Bromby have been watching Pools they will have identified where the problems in the team are, the problem is they need to persuade Smith to part with some cash to fund it as Clark has said the budget has been used.

There in lies the issue, a professional football consultancy firm could not spot the midfield issues when they assessed the players that were @ Pools, before planning their recruitment campaign for this season.

They signed strikers then hoped hoof football no need for midfielders would be a great tactic to score goals, obviously no idea about football in the National League.

do not think we are playing hoofball to strikers. for me its the obsession of playing the ball out wide and putting crosses into the box without a real plan B. the big clumsy defenders in this league love that heading practise they get against static strikers.

B & P simply looked at the figures and assumed Pools had a decent defence but lacked goals. Their simple solution was to bring in some goal scorers. Anyone who had actually witnessed Pools play would have realised that the lack of goals was a result of a paucity of chances created mainly as a result of a midfield lacking creativity. Strikers are impotent without chances. I estimate that at NL level only one out of three 'golden' chances result in goals so we need chances and the goals will come.

I think there is an easy solution, On recent showings It is not working out with Clark so loose him replace with Maynard . Also feel a sizeable saving could be made by getting rid of B&P as they will cost a lot of money and in mt mind have failed to deliver.

B n P have failed Smithy major style.

But Clarky will pay for it.

Why can’t we go back to the good old days of managers selecting players they know instead of this present nonsense.

B&P obviously just a bunch of bullshitters, we need to bin them off sharpish, let's hope it's pay on results for them but guess not.

The even easier solution is giving Chris Beech the job. It pains me to say it, but as it stands I think he'd do a better job.

Absolutely not. Nobody currently involved with this set up escapes criticism. Landon Smith needs to get Stuart Maynard in and give him a free hand with his coaching staff and player wheeling and dealing.

Pools have signed too many duds - starting with Jordan Hugill. I mean, the first signing of the new era... He's this season's Danny Johnson.

I'd absolutely love us to go and get Maynard, but Ive always seen Beech as the clubs plan B.

but how many of us moaned when he signed hugill or any of the others. you could say that he did a fairly decent job on paper with the ones he brought in apart from a good attacking midfielder. is it how they have been utilised by him and his staff that are the problem. could a new manager get a tune out of these players. feel the whole things a gamble anyway and we,ll frop on the right manager by pure accident at=nd not desire.

Hugill hasn't scored more than 3 or 4 goals a season since the beginning of the decade. Even Clark knew that - that's why he came out with a load of guff about Hugill setting an example of professionalism to the rest of the team. Yes, us fans can really see the benefits of that Lee...

Smith took advice for the new management staff and new players from Bromby I assume, Lee manager, Clayton assistant manager, Beech Recruitment, for me 3 wrong appointments, how can Smith rely on Bromby to appoint new staff if he decides to sack them. Smith should be getting rid of Bromby as they were responsible for appointing the current management staff and signing the current playing staff.

I’m going to pat myself on the back here - I said Hugill was going to be cack on here when everyone was pissing their pants about him coming back. As flying hogan said he’s been finished for years. Pools love a good nostalgia signing or coaching addition, it barely ever works. Move on, enjoy the moments that they’ve given us, but move on.

Dosent looks like Smithy did enough homework n due diligence before getting mugged of Radgy.
Wrexham part 2 has vanished.

In other news Fevs gets a cushy job at Hull City.

Never forgiven Beech for how he left back in the day……plan Z even would be too generous for me.

The title of this Topic sounds like a Dickens novel.
Mind you, he did write ‘HARD TIMES’ and ‘GREAT EXPECTATIONS’…….

The amount of washed up players or coaches we constantly employ because they’re from the north east or have had a long spell up here is absolutely fucking baffling. Just from this season alone there’s Clark, Beech, Clayton, Hugill and Gibson. Even Charman, Hunter, fisher you could argue are only here because they’re local lads in my opinion.

Always been the same, this baffling belief down the years that if we attract anyone who played for the ‘Big’ three, we will be blessed and glory will follow…and it never does.
Do they take us for fools for thinking if owners employ them we’ll be made up.
I don’t give a toss where they come from if they can do the job, it’s not a retirement home, but sometimes it feels like it.

it was worse years ago as most boro players knew there was another club who would give em a season at least in the game when they were finished. there cannot be another club at the level of pools and above that seem obsessed with employing people connected to the north east or have a past there. the vic is like a set on the league of gentleman with the town itself twinned with royston vasey.

True, but sometimes you got a good year out of some of them but some of them thought they we’re doing you a favour just turning up and expected us to respectfully tug our caps in humble gratitude.

Leigh Bromby—co-founder of the consultancy firm Bromby & Partners and former Huddersfield Town Sporting Director/Academy Manager—serves as the Talent Acquisition Lead for Derby County.
‘Doing well’ at Derby, beat at home last night 4-0 now sitting second bottom of the league.

there is also talk about the players not giving everything they can as well. could be just a co incidence i suppose. who thinks up these job title. talent aquisition lead, probebly another firm of consultants.

Football is getting like politicians….the case of the ‘Town Clerk’ becomes renamed the ‘Chief Executive’ and a massive pay rise fitting to their fancy big boots title.
Football is no different…...sell yourself under a fancy name and bullshit baffles brains till the thin veneer of capability washes off and reveals mediocrity and lack of anything resembling capability..
And people fall for it…remember , the bigger the self indulgent title, the bigger the number of lackey’s to ease the burden off the one running the show.
I’m referring to day to day management, not ownership..which is a minefield for the unsuspecting buyer with the best of intentions.

To be fair to Landon, he's obviously not jumped blindly into buying Pools in order to lose money. He came in and left things as they were for a while then decided it wasn't the way forward so he brought in B&P, he's now realised that it's still not working so he's changed things again by moving B&P from a hands on to a strategic role (presumably and evidently judged by recent player arrivals giving Pete Wild more say in player recruitment). He's obviously still intent on improving the club and the team and he's showing flexibility in his approach which for any new football club owner must be fairly daunting without the complications of living 1000s of miles away. He's on a huge learning curve.

you could accept all of this if there was an improvement in the running of the game off the pitch and we got more entertainment on it as well. more or less we are being conned but love the game or pools more likely to put up with it all. apart from seeing my lad at stockport occosionally i have not been to a non pools game since before covid but might talke a walk up greyfields if pools are away when we move back to the town hopefully before christmas.

In all industries nowadays it's so called Senior Management that look after themselves and even creating jobs not needed for their mates.
Then pass there dutys down to so called people below them while creating a fear against themselves.

Obviously not that bad in football but there will be a fair few shop/factory football fans know where I'm coming from.

A lad on You tube called Aaron Knightley has some great advice on employment.
I would recommend him to any young worker who needs advice.
