Just been to Iceland and was very surprised to see both Caramac and Chocolate coins still on sale sctatchinghead These are shown as longer up for sale maybe a gimmick to get the sales moving upwards when people who like these treats buy lots quickly. sctatchinghead

Wasn’t just asbestos…remember when a tile came down and a load of used needles fell out of the ceiling…poor old Mick Biott God bless him volunteered to move the tile and they all missed his arse by inches…it was like Rourke’s Drift as they all flew past.

The TV show "Countdown" has been around for over 40 years, and it's probably 30-odd since I last saw it, so watching it this afternoon was a bit of "blast from the past".

Why did I watch it? Well the Hartlepool lass who was one of the contestants just happens to be my youngest daughter Laura.

especially chocolate bars on railway stations. always remember leeds station with a machine where you could print a thin piece of metal with your name or anything else you wanted on it. you selected a letter on a dial and pressed a leaver to print it. those must have been around at other main line stations but never actually saw one.

I remember a old bloke who lived above our local shops he was somehow able to get a free packet of cigarettes from the machine outside. sctatchinghead I once asked him ( as a 8 yrs old ) why he doesn't empty the machine. He smiled and said " never bite the hand that feeds you son ". I know he used to put a metal bit of rod or maybe coat hanger in the slot then wiggle the bottom draw and hey presto the fag draw opened and he took his freebies. If memory serves it was Woodbines in 5 packs or maybe 10 sctatchinghead

Who remembers the cardboard triangle packets of custard in the 70s. sctatchinghead Used to get one every pocket money day from our half crown coin. In those days that was 12.5 pence but by heck you could get a lot back then. We would get very large mix up / large pop / and a custard triangle all for 12.5 pence. How times have changed for the worst. banghead

actually i never got pocket money. my old man used to say you get enough. i pay for you into the match and your ma pays for you going to the pictures. you share all the sweets in the house so why do you need more. he carried on like this if i went to a match later with my mates. it was down to a penny with nothing left over. never told him we walked to games both ways and saved the bus fare for chips walking back home.

Sweets in the house what sctatchinghead I reckon you came from a posh background Accy  We used to be lucky if we had eggs milk & bread in the house never mind luxuries. Let's be honest we had to wear plastic brown sandals in the snow and rain to school. We had to get to school early and ring ours socks out then hang them on the radiators to dry. Then sit on the floor with the soles of our feet up against the red hot radiators.

Don’t forget there was no social media so all news for the average supporter came via the Football Mail ( RIP) or gossip…or some clown pretending they were in the know ( that’s never changed).
Basically supporters had no interest in who was running the show as long as it stayed on the road, yet doubtless things went on, but it never really aroused the fans interest….the fanzines set the ball rolling….quickly followed by the internet.
