Not so sure they still do, isn't chairman trying to reduce spending and sell the club?

I'm sure I read somewhere that the owner has a terminal illness and is sorting his affairs out but because his family don't want to run the club he's selling up.

Shields have been up for sale nearly a year now. Doesn't seem to much of a rush to sell, regular emails he sends out saying in discussions with many suitors but nothing has happened. As you say he is ill but doesn't seem a rush to sell.

They have certainly reduced their spending but most of last years squad remains, some of the older ones have gone, but they have signed a few ex league players from other non league teams.

Blackett is certainly interesting, he must be on a decent wage and signed a 3 year contract with option. Suppose no higher club wanted to offer more than 2 years. He was at Gateshead in the past and struggled there. But peak age for player now.

They need to step up a lot on their two friendlies so far, both 5-0 defeats! The defence doesn't look as good without Liddle and Blair Adams, retired now apparently.

Blackett is a big asset to Shields, getting him under contract is a good move as he will move on at some time.
The reason nobody is buying shields is because they weren’t sustainable the way they were run, relying on a big input from the chairman.

us and others have bound to have watched him because of his goals. could be something somewhere that has put them off that we do not know about.
