That brings back bad memories of that unnecessary war and loss of life on both sides. And you have a good memory because that's how I remember it now I have read your post. The name I never forget though is the General Belgrano sunk by Thatcher when outside the zone. I think it was 1200 men on board when she committed that war crime. I still remember a lot of my friends saying it was nessessary and had to be taken out But regardless of opinions It was just outside the agreed zone so it was a war crime. If my memory serves I don't remember the Argies sinking a ship outside that zone at least up until that sinking Wars are nasty with no real winners just lots of military killed for government agendas.

The ship in question was a geriatric ex US cruiser of WW2 vintage…….trouble was it was going round the zone but could leave our two aircraft carriers very vulnerable and I have no doubt the Argentinians would not have hesitated to take advantage and sink the carriers…it’s war…it’s dirty, it ain’t nice
No one enjoys killing anybody but the whole point is to save your own lads first and keep your casualties to a minimum.

Same happening all over NATO. Putin sees defence cuts and not much happen when he takes parts of Georgia and Crimea so he thinks 'in for a penny' and goes to grab the rest of Ukraine.

When the Berlin Wall came down and the Warsaw Pact collapsed, Western politicians had a collective orgasm and invented the peace dividend…like Chamberlain they thought the had peace in our time and slashed defence spending to the bone and now their chickens are coming home to roost.
Like Roosevelt said…” Talk quietly and carry a big stick”.
But Western politicians just maxed their collective cards on defence savings.
