Have the DVLA been going around the town clamping cars. :angry-tappingfoot:

I've seen four cars tonight with sparkley new wheel clamps attached and DVLA stamped on them.

Some drivers been naughty.

Not before time- there was one clamped outside my school about 3 weeks ago. Think it belonged to a fellow teacher, it did make me smile. Should never have ditched the tax disc, at least people could see who was taking the piss!

I must admit I did find in amusing. The cars were parked outside houses that did look affluent.

might not be taking the piss. i for one have no idea if my car tax has run out but you knew when you had tax disk. if your reminder gets lost in the post you could be driving around for months untaxed. apart from showing a tax disk drivers should also show an insurance one which would stop them driving uninsured either on purpose or by accident. next will be an online MOT certificate which means something else to forget for many who do not do the online thing.

Spoke to people and family recently whose driving licence had run out and they weren't aware, no reminders for that either, you'd think they wanted an excuse to fine people

It's true that DVLA don't send reminders before the licence runs out, which most other organisations responsible for levying annual charges do. Not an issue for organised people who keep track of stuff for themselves, but plenty aren't that organised...

I liked the old tax disc and the idea of an insurance disc as well…
Would an MOT be pushing it.
On the subject of cars , a woman behind me down York Road at tea time had her headlights on full beam but they were pinky red, surely illegal….?
That coming down a country road at night could really cause confusion.

after being stung by accident with car insurance with one of their policies that automatically carries on past the 12 months i make sure when mine runs out. another of the many rip offs we have to watch for continually like checking a restaurant bill to see if the bastards have included a service charge they never told you about. its getting to the point now you can have a row a day without looking for it.

I got a letter reminding me that my licence was due for renewal towards the end of last year and my wife also received a letter for hers a couple of months later

English language was my poorest subject but I do appreciate the correct use of words.
Well done accrington fan, education was not wasted on you!

Continuous. Continual
Less. Fewer
Amount. Number
Middle. Centre
To. Too
It's. Its. (sorry)
Teesside, two s's (unlike Deeside)

I had that happen to me last October- only realised my license had expired only weeks earlier when I went to hire a car after blowing my head gasket.

I had to renew at the Post Office - £21 it was. The fella at the car hire place said go and get the application done and receipt of purchase will be enough for the insurance, so walked to main Post Office which was only about a mile up the road.

Went in and there was only 1 other customer in the whole place. So I go to the counter and ask, cashier says have you got an appointment, I said no, so she says you need an appointment. I was like can't we sort out now, she was like, no - not without an appointment. So made the appointment and went back 4 days later.

The Post Office was a bit busier the second time. Went to the counter to be served by the SAME person who again asked me if I had an appointment - She then fetches an iPad takes a picture of me, checks my address and relieves me of £21- IT TOOK ALL OF 5 MINUTES-
I was burning with rage, and had the glass screens not been up, would have happily dragged her over the counter :angry-screaming:

thats two things she could have been done for, but one avoidable if we still had tax disks.
