Don't think any council leader would want the failure of a town's football club on his hands if they can possibly avoid it, especially not just this side of a general election.

never forget the words of the mayor of accrington when the club resigned from the football league. more or less he said that the town has had many disasters over the years but this one single act is the worst one ever to hit the town. something every single town or city should remember unless they find a way to bring the same numbers into the town on a saturday afternoon and a tuesday night.

It's the loss of profile as well. Everyone outside Lancashire had forgotten a place called Accrington existed till that Hovis ad.

profile, pestigue and the economy for the town. there must be a good number who go to the match but spend money in the town before and after if only a pint and a pasty from somewhere. money the town would not receive without game. we regularly spend on a meal at the headlnd cafe, something from the butchers there, taylors at blackhall plus morrisons for her when the match is on. all money th local economy would lose without pools. multiply this over a season and what other fans do the football club is an important asset to the town even if the majority do not use it.

It was the Milk advert. The Hovis advert was filmed somewhere down South and directed by Ridley Scott.

National League requires Southend to deposit a £1m bond with them or face sanction. Winding up petition in court Wednesday.

Doesn't look good for them

and what help is it for them and other clubs. if southend cannot comply it will be a league of 23 clubs just in the same way as if they are allowed to start, drop out and the points totals are re adjusted. just give the poor bastards a chance. what really is there to lose as it could be your club in the future.

They will be NO points deduction, Southend will either be in/out long before the season starts.

If COSU are 100% sure of taking over they should not have a problem posting the bond.
Afterall they will receive it back at a later date.

The Lge were left with no alternative they have another 23 clubs to consider.

Oh no! Not another winding up order. I think they must have broken the record for the number of winding up orders they have faced yet miraculously survived.

Not a time to be a Southend fan.
Come on, it must really soul destroying to constantly have to live with this hanging over you for this long…like a constant toothache…..
I’d rather get it over with and start again, except I doubt that’s a palatable option.

The winding up order has been paid off by COSU. So looks like the take over will now take place otherwise the Aussies have lost around 4 million.

The winding-up petition hanging over Southend United has finally been dismissed.

At the High Court on Wednesday, legal firm Stewarts Law LLP, who represented the club at previous hearings, and the petition’s supporting creditor - a former club sponsor - both said they supported the dismissal.

The club’s chairman, Ron Martin, who was at the court, also said he supported the move. It is understood a deal with the former sponsor was agreed this morning.

Lovely to see SUFC survive especially for their loyal fans not so lovely to probably see them storm this league.

They were always Gunna survive.
Publicity stunt to get more fans in which will happen.
Playing catch up on recruitment but will probably still do ok.

support wise they are still a big club in our league and recruitment will not be too difficult if they are seen as a stable club now.

took the words right out me mouth - for certain they will grab a host of released southern talent and no doubt whats left of the decaying Crawley promotion squad. Southend are in a good spot for the london clubs and loanee talent pool from around there - they cant have a season like last year, think that was a fluke even with what was going on behind the scenes. Lets hope we have another through the door before the weekend

thats the positive spin on it for them. if they waited to start recruiting now they could be in a situation even worse than challinor was when we got late promotion with less available to sign. seems the signing process gets longer and longer and its a pity players cannot be bought off gumtree or ebay.

they both cannot be world beaters as someone else would have picked them up by now. just the same as any stars we sign at the last minute we haven,t been in conversation with for weeks on end. funny though how every other clubs signings are thought of as top aquisitions but ours are bog standard signings by some.
