does not bother me personally but its yet something else lost for others including the owner and the number who would use it regular and on match days. more chance of staying closed nowadays than re opening which seems the case now with most places.

The times when I use the pub are solely pre match/post match and, during those periods, it is well patronised but what sort of trade does it have at other times? Is it a viable proposition?

Funny thing that….when Mill House is demolished, what’s to say that entire site hasn’t been earmarked for something else?

Used to go in regularly - but went in once last season and it was awful - surly staff and clearly short of stock - what it did have was a smell. Shame for the landlady and regulars though.

The days of the local pubs are long gone they were a great community hub but as years went by the younger generation changed their habits, the older generation going out less, it was inevitable.
When I was working the first question in the morning was did you go out last night, if you said no you were wimp or didn’t your lass let you go out. Nowadays on some sites there is daily random breathalyser and drugs tests, a few on the sites I worked on would have failed the breathalyser, the bright red face and the smell of alcohol wouldn’t have necessitated a test.
It’s years since I watched the Street, Eastenders or Emmerdale but life used to revolve round the pubs on those programmes lunch times and evenings.

Try finding a pub, the three around us have all closed…..the one we used to go to on a night was ‘improved’ by the brewery and killed it stone dead by opening all the bars into to one huge space…a bit like sitting in a railway station, without the trains.

Choice of 6 decent boozers in Sedgefield, though one’s gone a bit up market.

Shame, was a good pub years ago, especially when the lads had it decked out with Pools memorabilia, but has slowly gone downhill since, I used it for my pre-match pint, although sourcing Strongarm seemed to get more difficult the last few years.

I used to like the pubs with all their individual rooms no kids allowed, now it’s open plan family friendly pubs with kids running about and some of the parents getting pi**** thinking it’s funny.
Pubs selling pre cooked chilled meals like the majority of chain pubs do, I wonder how many where they sell fish and chips is the fish fresh not frozen and that goes for the chips as well.

My Birthday is on Halloween, I kid you not.
We used to go out for a meal with family and for some obscure reason I paid.
Trouble nowadays is when you go for a meal on Halloween the pubs done up with plastic cobwebs and resembles the Addams Family time share….the pubs are full of loud pissed ‘parents’ letting their tired toddlers run them selves into the ground and the older ones think it’s an adventure playground ….. don’t bother now.

Another part of the Matchday experience gone.
Used to love a couple of jars on the Mill House Pre and sometimes post match. Though The last couple of times I went in- it was full of little kids charging about - which is just not acceptable.

The brewery have probably had an offer for the land and so hiked up the rent in order for it to become unviable. A real shame that it couldn't be kept going. The club should buy it, could make a killing, get Cameron's involved, could be a potential gold mine!

Imagine there's a few irons in the fire regarding the land n the future development which will eventually happen. Probably while we got relegated via minimum expenditure on the team.
Leisure centre Bowls club. Back of rink end.
The Vic.
All sitting on some seriously land dosh there.
About 10 years I reckon.

pubs now are like clubs used to be. full of bloody kids. one of the reasons you went was a break from them now even that reason has gone. if we could not find a baby sitter when my lad was really young we stopped in and then there was in influx of lager where it got harder and harder to find traditional beer so i ended packing it in and does not bother me anymore. Always had a pint of camerons on my visits to the vic but stopped doing that with the breathaliser laws where you can never be sure if you are over the limit or not even after just one pint of strongarm.

Serious land dosh to develop what, there are enough Retail Parks in the town, it might be suitable for social housing but no one would buy a house round there.

Got to agree- that land is worth fuck all- it's hardly prime real estate like Bootham Cresent in York. It will be social housing as and when it's developed

Might I suggest a Safari Park….they could feed themselves on passing raggy lads who pop in to Nick something.
Just a thought.

its again just a change of our habits over the years thats happening across the country. historians are now giving talks and making videos on lost pubs in every town in the country. i lived less than 3 miles from the shay and there once was 8 pubs between my house and the ground, now there is not even one open and some have disappeared altogether. always was a drinking ameteur and never managed to do all eight on a matchday.

West End Club went the journey a while back.
Always busy on match days.
Must be 50% of towns pubs gone in the last 17 years.
And plenty just hanging on thru the pub sports teams.
Saxon
King Oswy
Queens
Powlett
Chester
Old Rovers Club
Touchdown
Lion
Just to name a few no longer alive.

Its mad to think that every private housing estate / council estate etc all had local pubs built on them to service the community.
you could walk from estate to estate pub crawling, absolutely great times them. Headland was a land in its own with the pub crawls that used to go on up there (if you where allowed in of course!) ha ! shame so so many have gone and all been replaced by either housing or shops.
Clippy club another one down the pan. Such a shame !

The Corner Flag is open before and after every home game. In addition a good pint of Strongarm is available at a very reasonable price.
