I was willing the season to end and get a well deserved break from watching Pools go through yet another crap season. And now after just a few weeks I can't wait for the new season to start. banghead Those who say " if Pools are that bad stop going " have no idea at all what this game does to people. banghead

Totally agree.
But as you get older the false hope tends to fade.
And if you really old it goes altogether.

Kev, if you didn’t care you wouldn’t be on here defending your corner…..there’s always hope…. It’s having the monster of expectation the kills people, but hope is a candle that never goes out.

It's a funny thing because more than a few of us on here once loved a woman enough to marry her but as time goes on realise its not working out so we divorce them. But Pools is a relationship you keep putting up with. You threaten divorce dozens of times but never actually carry it through. Pools seem to hold the same respect deep down in our hearts that our children do. The incredible feeling when you see your child being born and that life lasting bond is definitely similar to the first time you watch Pools and bond with them for life.

at least you do not get fleeced for maintainance if you stop going to the vic like in the divorce courts or get warnings from the club if you miss a few matches like if you do that again you,ll be out. pools are like a drug, however much you try to pack em in something drags you back down skid row. that should be the new name for clarence road.

Supporting lower league clubs is like a marriage, you put up with crap life or the fixtures throws at you in the hope things will get better eventually but like most relationships you put up with all sorts because you love it.
‘Supporting’ top clubs is easy, the lazy alternative, but any fool can support a top club especially nowadays….the top clubs old fans have long been priced out of the game and replaced by the wealthier Stepford drones whose ‘love’ is conditional and transferable.

The name for any lower league club, but maybe not a drug, more an old mate you feel duty bound to visit…and guilty if you don’t.

yes, especially if the old mate is sick and after your visit you just wished you hadn,t bothered but then go back for more grief. however when we see a pools victory i,d bet we get more out of it and gives us a bigger high than the ones who go the the etihad or anfield.

its odd how we will knock pools but like me and other exiles who watch as many or more non pools games never get excited when watching these even if they are good games unlike possibly the crap served up at the vic the week before. its like watching a televised game live.

Thing with pools is now and again they do something you dont expect and that memory lives with you for years. I still think about paul baker scoring in the last minute at York in an fa cup game, small crumbs but that feeling lives with you.

so true as i feel we get more out of a win than the average man city fan does and will have as many positive memories as a last minute goal in a cup game will be forgotton as just a normal day at the office for them. know i,m buzzing all the way home after a win and still going through it when i get to bed. not saying its better than sex but its a very good second even to good jump.

My best memory from the old days is Bob Newton's brace to beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup in 1978, but nothing will ever top being at Bristol for the penalty shoot out win in Bristol a couple of years ago - because it felt nailed on for disappointment from the moment Torquay equalised. Just a shame there couldn't more there to see it.

One of the best goal celebrations ever. About 1988.
1300 Poolies going ballistic.
Sure someone put the video on here about 2 years ago.

Happy days.
Hopefully they return.

It was the cup game against Palace for me and the Andy Saville penalty award that was never a foul.

As a young kid i just remember the atmosphere we absoloutely battered them 2nd half, i remember york having a top striker at the time in dale banton i think it was. Luckily we battered them in the replay too. Bournmouth Derby and Luton at home were also games that i still vividly remember. Funny most of them were fa cup games, shame its being ruined nowadays.

Ive never been as nervous during a match as that day. I thought both teams played fantastic stuff on the day, probobly way above conference, infact for entertainment and drama that is one of the best games ive ever seen involving any club. Looked in the stars we would have heartache but yeah it probobly will never be beaten. Unless we get our fingers out.
