Why and when were they banned also stanchions for the nets where the ball could hit the stanchion and bounce out again leading to ‘no goal’ the ref thinking the ball had hit the post.

Just the playing field, the house was demolished later (disgusting, my old school) and tree cutting started with gusto but apparently halted as I understand there was a tree preservation order issued?
Consequently it’s a woodland car park going back to nature and nom’Executive ‘ houses built on the site…the squirrels are over the moon.

Don't know how to post links on here Leggie -however if you type Boris test card into google- the little girl and clown have been substituted for BoJo and his missus, also one of him with Trump ;)

and at the pictures as well. made sure i was well out of the place before they played it to stop the odd dirty look you got if you waited till the bitter end and then left.

Tyne tees started in 1959 and I know there was an epilogue between then and 1962 because my ex headmaster was on at least once a month

Tyne Tees announcers- Bill Steele and house wife's favourite Neville Wanless with his vast array of jazzy jumpers!

Also regularly being told that it was brought to us via Pontop Pike, Billsdale and Associated Transmitters! rolf

All I know is it was his TV name but that sounds probable. I know John Wayne's legal name remained Marion Robert Morrison.

in todays world john wayne would have changed it to marion morrison and big daddy would have wrestled under his real name shirley crabtree. i,d have called myself by my second name julian to sound part of the new gang.

Was very sad to hear on the radio today, that a young school girl from Darlington died yesterday after a mud slide near the Carlton centre.
I believe our council have made a statement as it's one of the few things we still own as a town.

My thoughts are with the family and friends, after such a tragic unforeseeable incident RIP

Well that's down to the " professional people " we allow to take good care of our kids. Problem is its kids looking after kids a lot of the time. The other day a group of kids approx 5yrs out for a walk by 4 teachers, 1 at the front two in middle area and 1 at the rear. The one at the rear was looking at her mobile and texting banghead All four who I assumed teachers looked about 18 to 20 yrs old. But then again the Police look around 15 to me now.

I didn't think you were Leggie!

I'm a bit long to in the tooth for school trips- I now only go on them, if somebody else has organised it- as the paperwork is a right ball ache!

Also a long time since I only looked 15- think I was twelve back in those days (I put it down to a hard paper round)!

School trips are a joke nowadays…back in juniors in the 60’s…our school trips were Berwick and Holy Island, Durham and Hadrians Wall Flamingo land and Whitby, sadly for the trip to Windermere and cruise I was grounded for laughing in class. Ah well
In contrast my youngest daughter in late 90’s had one school ‘trip’ ….a one hour traffic survey at a local shopping parade…teachers couldn’t be arsed obviously as her older brothers went to a different school in the juniors and got two nights in London.

not your imagination. plus they were no worse than some. of the modern lighting we are now stuck with

My pet hate…..those shitty little LED lights that light nothing….oddly we were in a pub in Tobermory and the topic came up and one of the regulars said Councils don’t put enough LED units in that’s the problem …trying to save money and a load of bollocks about light pollution……what pollution is that exactly …it’s non toxic pollution. sctatchinghead

Far from it…the annual trip was a reward apparently.
Mind you on the trip to the Lakes whereI was banned I had to go to school still and spent the day drawing in a classroom…the headmaster came in and told me to go home at three o’clock and I went home and the the old girl and she got a surprise as I was supposed to be at the Lakes as I never told her I’d been banned ..she was off like an Exocet down to school, she wanted her money back she’d paid and the neck of the bitch of a teacher….forgot all about me…phew!

Never upset a mothers son  My misses is the same when any of our Boyz are in any bad or possibly bad situation. A few years back when our youngest was 15yrs ( now 21) he rang me mobile and said dad I have a problem a gang of arseholes on my bus are threatening to beat me up when I get off the bus in 10 minutes for no reason at all. I told the wife I was off to the bus stop to sort these arseholes and won't be long. Despite being the quietest nicest person I have ever met ( 5.4 " ) she said " oh no your not we are " nobody messes with my boy! He is like his mother unfortunately extremely quiet polite lad not like me a complete twat. Anyway we arrived at the bus stop and he got off the bus with a gang of 4 lads pushing him from behind. I had to literally drag her off them she went mental and started clipping them around the heads. They shit themselves and ran away just like the little cowards and bullies they are. Funny thing is a week later same (Saturday) night we went to meet him off the bus just incase and 3 of the same lads were again on that bus but decided to stay on the bus an extra stop. He told us they had totally left him alone this time and one said your mother is totally crazy  That was the only time in 28 years with her she has ever done anything at all like that night. Like I said " never upset a mothers son ".

The old yards ( coal ? ) opposite greenlands road side of the docks backed onto the railway embankment. If you took a left at the roundabout ( metal balls ) towards headland they used to be on the left hand side. If you walked on foot from there you would pass them on left before you got to the other bridge onto Oakesway Industrial. I also seem to remember a club house or something similar in between these yards. sctatchinghead Sorry I am struggling to explain but I do remember something like that back in mid 70s sctatchinghead

Old Council tip through the brus arch then up the hill onto the sea front. I wonder which bright spark decided to put a smelly tip on the sea front at a time when the beach was at its most popular in summer times. banghead

Old Council tip through the brus arch then up the hill onto the sea front. I wonder which bright spark decided to put a smelly tip on the sea front at a time when the beach was at its most popular in summer times. banghead

No different when the council made the tip on Seaton seafront, the new estate next to it was nicknamed the rat estate.

I was watching Michael Portillo in Prague last night and he was talking to one of the two remaining gas lamp lighters and it reminded me when they used to come round in the 50.s in the time to turn them on and off. Anyone remember or is my imagination

not your imagination. plus they were no worse than some. of the modern lighting we are now stuck with

My pet hate…..those shitty little LED lights that light nothing….oddly we were in a pub in Tobermory and the topic came up and one of the regulars said Councils don’t put enough LED units in that’s the problem …trying to save money and a load of bollocks about light pollution……what pollution is that exactly …it’s non toxic pollution. sctatchinghead

those bloody LED lights cost me a few hours in time because i thought my sight was deteriorating badly after going up towards crimdon after they changed them and not knowing. luckily my sight was just the same as it previously was.
