Seriously mate if you have only gained a tenner there is something wrong and you need to have a discussion with the DWP as soon as you can.
My state pension went up by £1029,60 in April and after tax I am better off by £823 so Christ only knows how you have ended up with just a tenner.
I have done calculations every which way since you posted and I get the same answer every time (within pennies).
I assume that’s in a year Derwent, Snowy might be using his weekly/monthly figures as a comparison, my State Pension went up a similar amount but HMRC take £260 more from my small private pension making me around £12 a week better off.
I'm not making any assumptions Jamie and it's Snowy I'm addressing not you. He is quite capable of answering for himself, if he so wishes. There's no need for second guessing by you or me, when the correct and exact situation can be obtained. He is the only one who knows exactly what he means.
On your assumption about my situation yes the figures are for a year, I would love them to be weekly or even monthly and I am just over £15.80 per week to the good. My gross increase to my state pension was £19.80 per week. Because any tax due is taken from my private pension, that has gone down by £17 per month equating to just over £200 tax increase for the year.
I think I have covered all bases but I'm sure you'll have a look to make sure.
There is such a thing as opinions and discussions that’s what message boards are about, are we not allowed opinions discussions on other peoples posts on The Bunker or are we not allowed to get involved on other peoples posts which could provide useful info for others on the board. If thats the case remove the quote feature or close the comment to further comments.
That's a bit OTT Jamie.

Nobody is depriving anybody of an opinion but when somebody asks a question of somebody else or shows a concern relating to them it is common sense to allow that person to answer. By all means answer a general question but my question was direct to Snowy. Even then in your involvement with it all you gave was a maybe. I can figure out my own maybes. By all means put info on relevant to yourself which could be useful to others, as I did. The info you suggested relating to Snowy was not accurate but just a maybe. As has been mentioned before you are getting more touchy by the day. Give it a rest man.

Ah well that's the working man paying a lot more tax and State Pension becoming taxable.

Suppose ya can shit all over the public then ride of into the sunset when your a billionaire tosser.

The State Pension is already taxable, the tax threshold needs to raised currently frozen till 2027.

I’ve been paying tax on mine since day one, in fact my state pension increase is a tenner as the rest has went as tax…so much forthese alleged big rises….like God, they ‘giveth and taketh away’.

I’m getting the full rise on my state pension but the tax on my several private pensions has went up.

As long as you've got your just dues then that's fine. You hear all these stories about people being short changed etc. I was organising a whip round so everything would be ok.

That applies to the majority of pensioners but not all.

If I hadn't opted out of SERPS my state pension on it's own would be around £280 per week, which is over 14 grand. Unless the taxable allowance goes up,a lot more people will pay tax on it eventually, as you rightly point out, especially if the triple lock or something similar is in place. A new government could actually freeze any increase in the basic state pension if they so wished or control the increase to keep it below the threshold.
PS, as Labour haven't yet fully committed to keeping the triple lock as it is now, they might legislate to keep it below the threshold. Pensioners aren't traditionally on their side so very little damage will be done to their support if they come down on the state pension to help fund the many schemes they will inevitably be cooking.
Something else for pensioners to worry about.

Snowy was making a comment not asking a question, I replied to his comment like others did clarifying his comment which included your comment for the benefit of the other posters on the Bunker not to you as an individual. If you wanted to address Snowys comment directly why didn’t you PM him ?
I am not getting touchy by the day Derwent, plenty of posters including myself ask questions and they get answers from numerous other posters, but you appear to take it personally every comment I make. Is it a personal crusade by you to give you a reason to ban me from the Bunker permanently not just a week like you did before ?

do know for a fact that mine was taxable before the increase with all the add ons to the state basic pension i received. thats true about pensioners needing to worry about the next election result. always feel that we come second to the workshy in the eyes of the labour party and a bad third behind immegrants.

I joined in to Snowy's "comment" By suggesting he "question" the DWP to assert whether he was getting his just dues. You replied with the comment "I assume that's in a year Derwent". Later on you specifically said you weren't addressing me as an individual. If starting your post with that sentence isn't addressing me as an individual why specifically use my name.
Now this persecution complex you seem to have, I don't wake up every morning with the thought of how can I persecute Jamie today and I don't consider anyone else does.
If you keep persistently mentioning the idea, I could be persuaded to take that route as you appear to be daring me to do it. This is a forum where membership is approved and none of us have the right to demand or expect anything else, so technically we have it in our hands to ban anyone or everyone. It could be closed down today if the owner so wished. We very rarely use that "power" because not only is it sensible not to do so but totally unreasonable.
As for your ban. Technically I did not give you a 7 day ban. It was not my idea, I agreed with it though. However you subsequently apologised and that was the end of it. You are still here as proof of that. I have pressed the ban button twice and never the suspension button, and suspension is what you got.
You produced your manifesto the other day and I praised it. So I don't jump on your every post. Neither does any one else.
If you have had the number of your posts jumped on as I have had over my time on here you might have something to whinge about.
Not as much these days but in the past it was brutal and I've no doubt I asked for it. I gave it back of course. However all that is water under the bridge and now is now but it might give you some idea why I am sensitive to letting things get out of hand. That is the road to nowhere.
