When he signed for Pools I put the radio on as I set off to Northampton on a sunny Friday evening and there was a phone in and one Pools supporter phoned in to object to the signing and when asked what he’d do when he scores a goal he replied he’d do nothing.
Thankfully I was losing the signal after the Osmotherly turn off .
I couldn’t stop shaking my head

He's only 56 and should be fine - bypass operations are carried out in specialist units (the ones in the North East are the James Cook in Middlesbrough and the Freeman in Newcastle) and they have an excellent success rate.

I had mine in my late 60s, was only in hospital for 4 days and have made a full recovery. Naturally I was a bit apprehensive before I went under but reassured that the chances of a bad outcome (death or a stroke) are about 1 in a 100. At least, that's what they told me

My memory of Marco is heading home to York after a home game & getting as far as about Portrack when I got the full headlight treatment from a car coming up behind me. Duly pulled over & there was Marco in his personalised Beamer or whatever blasting past at speed. Bloody footballers !
Hopefully makes a full recovery - great player

Marco was absolutely brilliant in the two seasons he played for Darlo. Some of the goals he scored were amazing including one of my favourite ever Darlo goals, away at P’boro.

I turned up at Hartlepool once to watch him play in a cup game where he scored (I think) his last pro goal.

Get well soon Marco…

Pah! Triples are for poofs, try a quadruple.

For those who aren’t up to speed a bypass is required when you have blocked cardiac arteries. Usually the blockage is on the branch of several pipes so a stent is not feasible.

Process is:
Hack open chest
Stop the heart
Cut your leg open and harvest a vein or two.
With that vein create a new set of pipes and replace the blocked ones
Single/double/triple etc refers to the number of arteries replaced.
Restart heart and sew you up.

You’re actually healed very quickly in terms of the cardiac arteries but the invasivness of the operation is what hurts and takes the time to heal. You’re essentially healed after about 8 weeks but I reckon it took me a year to get back to normal.

Incidentally, I lost 10kg’s laid in a hospital bed due to the body working like crazy to heal up.

Hope it goes well Mr G.

I went through a triple bypass when I was 52. I was lucky that I was fairly fit or I would have had to go through the operation at 42 according to my specialist. My colesterol level was 9.6 and I didn't know. Hence blocked pipes. I was out of hospital after 4 days and back at work after 5 weeks. I'm now 66 and still relatively fit.

Three people who had the operation on the same day as me never left ICU unfortunately.

My mate actually told me I was to tight to go through a quadruple

I’d recommend 8mm microbore in copper with compression fittings and isolation valves…..saves time and the copper could sort out arthritis into the bargain.

Gabbiadini was a class act. Darlo unbelievably lucky to have him, oh for players like that at either club now, think Armstrong is the closest we will get to him in a long time. Only had a short spell at pools but he is defo one of the best ive seen.

The sort of player you dreaded on the team sheet against you.
We managed to sign the wrong brother, their ‘Retardo’ was not in the same mould.

Did he score a penalty against Pools in the play offs, I think Martin Hollund got sent off and Dario got a penalty, it was the game where Hodgson got pelted by coins from the Mill House.?

Yep that’s the one
Darlo had a much stronger side than us that year flushed with George’s cash, they really dropped a bollock not going up, sliding doors moment like ours at cardiff as all turned to shit for them from there
