The new Esso garage opposite the Travellers has opened and the petrol was 4p a litre less than the Supermarkets…who by some strange stroke of fate were all the same…….and cheaper still out of town.
Can someone explain petrol sold by supermarkets can vary from area to area, unlike other commodities, can’t be transport costs as were down the road from the bloody refinery.

I posted some time ago that the small independents in our area were cheaper than the Supermarkets. Of course everybody noticed it and the queues formed at the cheaper outlet. Lo and behold the Supermarkets spotted this and now are the same or less than the independents again.
A single word answer to you question Snowy is ..........exploitation.

You left out the word ‘cynical’ before ‘exploitation’.

morrisons keighley is 4p a litre cheaper than one 6 miles down the same road on the north side of halifax. the liers used to say it was the transport costs from the refinery that give the price at the pump cost. could be supply and demand where the one with the bigger demand charges the most for an even bigger profit.

Two garages up the A689 towards Bradbury A1 junction have unleaded petrol at 143.7p a litre.

Thank you very much.

I know a lad who'll gladly travel 5 miles and queue up to get 4p off per litre. Then I pointed it out to him that his car had a 50l tank and he was arseing about for an absolute maxim two quid saving.

My fuel card price this coming week is £1.33 for diesel. Now given that the fuel card company is making a profit on that it shows the level of profiteering going on in the retail garages.

I remember when they put the petrol up on budget day to come into force that midnight they rushed down like idiots to save coppers…..one lad at work had his tank three quarters full and went down ….

142.9 at Sainsbury’s Sedgefield. For some reason fuel is always lower than average here, but their food prices aren’t so it’s swings and roundabouts.

Morrisons in Kettering is normally about 5p a litre CHEAPER than Morrisons on Clarence Road- which is an absolute fucking disgrace! banghead :angry-screaming:

5p extra a litre would make a difference of about 40 quid a year for your average motorist. Irritating but not exactly a big fish to fry.

Told the wife…not bothered as she just puts £20 in so it doesn’t affect her.
She sort of has a point…so I pressed the point no further.

I went to Durham yesterday and the Jet garage on the A181 just past Wingate was 141.9 for Unleaded

I understand that however- the same retailer charging significantly different prices in different postcodes for exactly the same product is appalling. Particularly when it's more expensive in the north east, where it should be cheaper than darn sarf

Puts the £20 increase into ST's into perspective don't you think.

keep adding all these things together, add on gas and electric savings you can make, shop where things you buy are the cheapest, eat and drink where you get the best bargains and over the year you could probebly save enough for a holiday. thats where the buggers con you by saying it only costs x amount a year. you need to add all the x,s up if only to stick your finger up at the robbing profetering bastards.

Probably a bad thing, the bigger the group the greater the leverage over prices….supermarkets having the biggest share of the market have us by the gonads….love how in town their prices are usually all the same…or thereabouts.

Wonder if they remain under the Morrisons umbrella ? primarily just the food etc inside the store or we see them rebrand completely ?

not sure without a quick google who they are and if they Franchise out a certain Fuel like a BP - Texaco - Jet sort of thing ?

hopefully they do not turn up and do a Shell (Hospital roundabout) and keep their prices always higher than the rest of the town and surrounding area.

Asda are franchisees I think and therefore thriving barstewards charge whatever they can get away with.

I drove past Asda today. I'm sure that unleaded is down to £1.36/litre from £145.7/litre. A bit of competition is good for all.

They get less visitors than the Longscar Rocks picnic site at high tide in January.

The Issa brothers who own Asda probably own them along with hundreds of others in the U.K., that’s how they made their money.

Asda petrol station in Hartlepool has had the planning application approved for it to be knocked down and shifted basically onto the site next door where the old staff car park is. Apparently its not going to be Asda and someone else will have it - there was something in the mail also about this too - think the tenders are out for the food vendors in there so it sounds like its going to be a big American style gas station thing like what is popping up all over cities now.

use the savings whilst you can. starmer and co will not allow us cheaper fuel much longer as the greenies will not be liking it.
