Remember how they sacked all their British crews a couple of years back.
Well it appears that while being interviewed by a Parliamentry Committee, it was revealed that their new overseas crews are being paid £2.86p an hour…a quarter of the minimum wage.
They then register all their shipping under foreign flags which begs the question are they actually a British company anymore and why are the allowed top to operate a ferry service in UK waters?

It was a good watch, absolutely shocking, he kept saying P&O were paying the global rate of pay yet they are operating in the U.K. as you say., video clip here,

Dismissal and re-engagement, also known as 'fire and rehire' was used by ASDA, offered workers new contracts if they refused to sign them they lost their job.

No idea why it's taken 2 years to react on either side of the Channel but P&O's scandalous exploitation of ferry crews is coming to an end:

firms will always pay as little as they can for workers especially if supply is greater than the demand.

It’s the French who reacted albeit it took 2 years, why didn’t the U.K. government ?
It’s all well and good implementing a salary but an Asian on even 50% of that wage which is probably a very decent wage to them is not going to contest it as he/she would soon be out of a job.

The Government could surely have said you have non UK crews, you register your ships under flags of convenience therefore why be allowed to operate on ferry routes to and from the U K…?

The ships are registered abroad, companies/agencies registered abroad, employees paid from abroad therefore U.K. legislation doesn’t apply to them.

Lidl have upped their wages to match Aldi, £12.41 an hour for working in a supermarket. I am not saying they don’t deserve it. It so many years ago that was a tradesmens rates.

I remember when the Falklands kicked off and the government turned to the British Merchant Navy to provide logistical support to the armed forces task force. They'd be lucky to muster any British Merchant vessels with British crews to assist at all - can't see Philipino or Asian crews going to help the British war efforts of the future. Certainly not for 4 quid an hour.

I don’t begrudge the shop workers the money as they have been underpaid over the years.

It appears quite clearly you did … in a patronising manner to boot.

Aldi and Lidl workers are jacks of all trades and do not just sit on a checkout yapping to customers or telling them to use the self service checkouts like they do at morrisons or asda. its decent money but they earn it.

You obviously misinterpreted my post, I noticed you posted at around 5.30, I always said you are at your grumpiest at that time and everyone receives the wrath of your tongue.

I misinterpreted nothing, brush up on your English grammar and stop trying to bluff you way out of it.

Our lass called in the warehouses in Calais once and came out triumphant with a monster box of Persil, no booze just soap powder…tons of it.
Only she would take that much white powder through customs and miss the irony.
However when she finally opened it she came in ashen faced because inside the powder she found a a sizeable package in brown wrapping tape…. :scared-eek: …I opened it gingerly to find a fecking scoop
