Released by Grimsby. Still only 32.

Mentioned on the Out of Contract thread, but surely worth a discussion of his own

He is well respected at Grimsby. Quite a few are disappointed he was released. Bring him home DS

Him and Shelton were Featherstones legs basically, given it was 3-4 years ago they likely have less in them….time to move on

I agree. When people start getting wishful for long gone players it’s not a good sign and it never works out.

Why are Grimsby parting company with him, never go back.

Generally agree with the never go back approach, but it's worth looking at each case on its merits. I've no clue why they released him, so maybe there is more to it than we'll ever know, but he was their leading provider of assists last season and he could fit the bill in terms of adding dynamism to the midfield.

How’d you find that out like?
It’s go on out of the door or end up as bait or a jumbo fish finger, so it’s best to go.

Terry Plywood’s cousin Horatio said his window cleaner’s mother’s cousin knows a girl who heard the landlady of the Gropers Arms pub listening to conversation by the Woke Vicar of St Tampon’s on the Wold said Jimmy dog eye was on the bus and two women had seen Ann Ominous dancing in the Curch Hall during the senior citizens Pole Dancing class with a bloke called Rampton Stiffkey who does winkle impressions told her the the last bus from Cleethorpes to Grimsby will be 11.30 from June onwards…said fuck all about Gav leaving. sadx

So some are advocating that potentially 3 of our midfielders could be Fev, Wallace, and Holohan be in the squad? None have any pace, have we learned nothing having a non existent midfield for years?

Well I don't like Wallace a very poor " pretend "footballer. I do like Fev but only a bench warmer until needed for the odd 20 mins in certain games . I do like Holohan and would definitely sign him and play him in first eleven  But that's the beauty of football it's all about opinions and we all have them.

Who exactly is advocating that? Must be you!

BTW, Sarll is a huge admirer of Nicky Featherstone. Check out his interview on Radio Tees. Managers eh?

Anyone suggesting Holohan would be a decent signing is who's advocating that.

Sarll also said that if you can't run and can't tackle you can't play for me. Wonder if he's going to change his style of play if Fev stays?

How am I advocating that? Please point out any message I have placed that advocates having these three in the team or squad? It's my opinion that Holohan would be a good player, who I would play if it was down to me. As explained already I would ONLY use fevs for the occasional game to play a small role. Already explained I would get rid of Wallace if it was my choice. Football is about opinions please respect mine because I will respect yours

Of course I respect your opinion, I don't necessarily agree with it though. If we keep Fev and Wallace is still under contract I'd say our incoming midfielders must have pace and / or physicality.

I totally agree we definitely need more pace and physicality in midfield. But if totally fit we have pace in Mancini which is a good starting point. I do not see Fevs getting a lot of game time next season and Wallace hopefully gets none.

No, don't think I did- poor bugger!
I do remember him getting a good reception from the Pools fans when he turned up at the Vic, managing Blackpool in the early 90's

In fact not sure if that was the same day their keeper who I think was called Bamber and was mad- came out for the warm up wearing a rubber Halloween mask on his head?

Definitely Terry Bell, but it could be adopted for any player in reality.

Wallace will be one of those players we get stuck with yet again - hes injured and already tipped to miss a full preseason and start of the season.
For him to then get upto speed and hopefully try fight his way into a settled decent 11 once fit will be hard. I have not seen a single game in which i thought "aww this is why he was good for Mansfield in the League and why he was liked by their fans". Really bad signing for me and one i was hoping was going to be our new defensive lynch pin. Probs see him feature in a handful of games if that. If this 7 on the bench rule for the NL is true it might just be his lucky day as he might just get the 7th spot

Your obsession with pace in midfield seems to be at the expense of all other qualities. Playing in a struggling side this season in League 2, Gav's stats at the sharp end of the pitch are 4 goals and 6 assists.

Poolies - and Grimsby fans for that matter - know what he's capable of in the National League. Next season is all about getting out of this shitty division. I think most Poolies can see that Gav would potentially be an asset in that regard.

And while we're at it, remind me who provided the pace in midfield in the promotion season 3 years ago among Featherstone, Holohan and Shelton? The fact is we had plenty of pace elsewhere in the team and that midfield did just great!.

Holohan is a very good midfielder at this level - he gained promotion with us and Grimsby.
He wont be back here but i guarantee we see him at another NL club and no doubt do well when we play said team and him in the side.

agree that i cannot see him coming back, but might be a better bet than one signed due to their agents pushing them and seeing a few videos of there better parts of a game. no single manager or scout can watch everybody during a season and they can go to the wrong match at the wrong time to judge anybody. even those released by us had there good moment.

I thought that was Billy Aire, the no nonsense centre half from the late 1970s???

Edit:

Sorry, missed reference in the thread below and even spelt his name wrong. I better get back to work!

I agree Eiphos  I personally would have him back in the blink of an eye. Quite a few Grimsby fans wanted him to stay and most have total respect for him. Some of here say he must be Injured but he is not he is fully fit and ready for a new challenge.

Id take a midfield 4 of Holohan - Feaths - Mancini - Chapman. Some cracking players are getting released just now.

there is no reason why at all we cannot pick up some decent mids this season and also hopefully another attacker and winger.

Yeh agree again. Chapman could be terrific for Pools.

Chapman seems to be one of these players who showed great promise as a youth but has been here there and everywhere and continually being released.

Pools never seem to have much luck on players returning for a second spell and will he be the same box to box player as before and for this reason I say no thanks to the Irish midfielder.

Basing a players ability and attributes on what he did 3 or 4 years ago?
Who was the last returning player to be anywhere near as good 2nd time as he was 1st time at Pools - answers on the back of a postage stamp?

Why, that would be Gary Liddle, who was immense in last our promotion season. Got any more hard questions?
