Trying to get knife crime off the streets of Britain and the producers think it's a good idea to show a short advert trailer for the next "Dune" fillum showing two men fighting with knives, that's going to help greatly.....I think not.

Impressionable young people watch these "franchises" or maybe they're courting controversy to get some extra publicity?

Where do kids get their daft ideas from I wonder? You’ve just nailed it….!

like when the kung foo films came out how many saw kids suddenly trying to copy them. in a far less serious note why did we play our war games and cowboys and indians when us oldies were young.

Right, so all those lads from single parent families joining gangs for alternative role models, involved in drug dealing and living in in the sink estates of London would stab each other a bit less if the Dune trailor wasnt on the telly. I struggle to believe this.

I think the point being made is that these adverts don't help.

The TV/film companies believe it’s the type of things we want too watch, how bloodthirsty and graphic is stuff nowadays, in the old westerns, war fillums etc you didn’t see blood and guts everywhere.

Your missing the point. If you had a trailer showing two lads sniffing glue and put it out on daytime TV that would be acceptable also?, if you make something out to be acceptable young people think it's just that.

I think only a tiny number of young people are totally stupid. Not keen on the nanny state.

You’re assuming they share the same values as you, believe me, they don’t.

Yes, they sure as hell do not share the same values as the majority of people.

do not like the nanny state either but how many of us from different eras have tried things once who were regarded as not the most stupid ones around at the time. its a difficult balance to make between making things illegal where just by doing that can make people try it. actually found more fun in under aged drinking and going into pubs than i did once it was legal for me to do it.

How many would sign up if we ended up in a conflict, I do believe the world is teetering on the edge of another conflict, watching footage from World War 1 & 2 the majority of the soldiers all had big smiles on their faces boarding trains and ships, some more so in WW1 never came back.

Under age drinking was great. We all had FS1E's - loads of us had mopeds (before they were neutered) and we used to ride to local pubs and have a few pints at the age of 16. Then later, on bigger bikes :auto-sportbike: when we turned 17. I'm not sure I've ever been I.D'd once.

I barely drink at all now.

we actually got our kicks by doing something that was illegal but mainly we never bothered anybody by doing it. there used to be about 6 of us who were regulars on a friday night at 16 and were caught by a couple of teachers out on the piss at the end of term. one had me in when we got back but we got away with it because we were not noisy and behaved ourselves to their satisfaction. wonder how many packed in the fags as well when it was legal to buy them.
