Just renewed mine this morning and the best (quite amazed) is £140 fully comp for me and wife on little Fiat Panda with no claims protected and no excess.

House with contents and breakdown cover, the best I can do is £196 on 4 bed detached.

What prices are others paying?

Car had MOT on 19 Feb and had only done 198 miles in prior year. Went back in garage later that day and been in there ever since. No problem with me holding up traffic as all I drive on is 30mph roads!

I do 300 miles a week unless I’m driving out of town…..that’s roughly 4 miles a week

From about 2000 until 2017 (when retired) I was driving most Thursdays a Transit Van from Tamworth ( leaving at 3am) to Brighton with a load and then returning to Rugeley where I worked, with "empties" and then on to Cannock to return the van to hire Company.

Then back home to Tamworth which was nearly 500 miles in those days.

So makes a change doing bugger all driving now.

Actually I had a car like that… a fecking VW Polo back in the 90’s ….more temperamental than the wife…it went the journey sharpish….which is more than it did on the road.

park the thing on the road outside your house as there is nowhere else to put it and you still have to pay insurance and road tax just to leave the thing there. catch 22 if there ever is one as you cannot afford these costs or run it for even a short period you,ll be done the same as those driving on the roads who have not paid either.

Decided to have a look about before renewing my insurance today. Someone told me to go to Go.Compare and the Money one that are advertised. Well if ever I see that " fat hugely big mouth tosser " from Go. Compare I will end him simples. The quotes by both were way over the top, so I decided to miss out the that " greedy fatman " and ring the companies direct. Both these horrible sites had charged over £200 above the price quoted directly. This World is full of scammers that are able to promote services on the t.v.. It's all about the money money money. banghead

Sorry to disappoint but my £140 insurance went through Go.Compare which also gave a free £250 excess cover and was by far the best comparison site.

It was also £175 but GC gave a £35 discount bringing it down to £140.

It is most likely horses for courses and sometimes you can be lucky on one comparison site and on other times the best price could be going direct.

plus for reasons i,ll never understand is certain makes and models are cheaper than others with very little difference in performance and safety stats on them. its a cart before the horse situation where you have to find insurance and road tax costs before you purchase the car. too late if you do the opposite.
