Wasn’t Redcar in the running to get the Marina before Hartlepool ?

Just a rumour, was at the meeting at the a time of Cleveland’s death and there was no other option, just Hartlepool and Stockton benefited for a change.
Redcar would require a whole new structure built out into the sea, much more expensive than developing Hartlepool which had the perfect infrastructure and the only work on lock gates was the gates themselves as the basins were already in place…and it had the Middleton outer harbour which would allow vessels approaching in bad to reach the actual lock gates in a calmer sea state than directly from the North Sea….plus there’d have been no Historic Quay…no where to put it.

Thanks for that Snowy, was there not a discussion they should have made the lock gates bigger to allow bigger vessels in or doesn’t the marina have draught to take anything bigger ?

Derwent I have no allegiance or political view on any party, I might have done in the past,it does make me smile when Snowy calls me Keir, he forgets it’s Sir Keir they are all middle of the road with Reform more to the right and irrespective of their manifestos it will not pull the U.K. out of the mire.
My only beef is Brexit, let’s not go there please, it will only open a can of worms on th board.
Jamie you can plead your case till you are blue in the face, I'm really not interested. All I am interested in is preventing anyone using the bunker to promote personal political agenda, which in my view you have been doing and have been asked to curb it. Your behaviour heretofore will determine whether I continue to have that view or not. Any further decisions I make will depend on that. End of.
As usual you want to turn this into a confrontational contest. Forget it. A decision has been made so it's up to you.
Derwent i am not being confrontational I asked a straightforward question, what is my political agenda, I just don’t have a political agenda end off.I have opinions both left and right wing, we are all grown men on the Bunker and if I did have a political agenda and again I repeat I don’t who is going to be influenced by what I post ?
I was asked to curtail my views on Brexit which I did, dear me I can’t do right from wrong, the U.K. is known for freedom of speech, Derwent if you are admin, you are in a position to delete any topics not relating to Footy, I am sure in the coming months the Bunker will become very political with the local and general elections coming up, btw I am keeping out of it.

Looked up what hidden agenda means Derwent, you are criticizing them because you think they are secretly trying to achieve or cause a particular thing, while they appear to be doing something else.
No idea what I am secretly trying to achieve ?
You think I am attempting a coupe on the Bunker Derwent ?

Yeah, that was a massive mistake, costing even more because the entrance had to be closed in and smaller gates fitted….the original gates were wide enough to take most vessels up to a tonnage of a 10, 000 ton vessel, so new gates to fit the original width would have been cheaper than all the new masonry work needed to reduce the width.

Bloody hell, I just can't believe this. I'm finally going to have to jump in on this.
Everytime Jamie posts something Leggie, Snowy and Derwent all jump on him. Started about 6/8 weeks ago and has been getting steadily worse ever since.
Can't believe youse' are now trying to say he's the bully!!

This did not start 6-8 weeks ago. Far, far longer than that, before you returned to the board…. so be in possession of ALL the facts because you obviously aren’t.
I do not have a pop at people without good reason , neither does Derwent.
I haven’t asked him to be kicked off the board, just to rein it in as Derwent has.
Patience ain’t elastic.
That said, me and Jamie know what the score is, he’s a big boy with same background and knows how it works when working on site back in the day and just a game that some people fail to comprehend.
He’s going nowhere, neither am I , sparring one day , exchanging information the next…it’s a contractors site thing, no one really gets hurt…ask him …he’ll agree.
If you can’t read between the lines get some better glasses.

Well Jamie I'm not sure who you are trying to convince by that statement but I am not convinced one little bit. As for you organising a Coup ( I think that was the word you were looking for), I have never heard anything so daft. You owe me a cup of coffee and a keyboard wipe for that one.

Used to go down with my Granda when he was walking down to Middleton, must have been five or six and always seemed to be a sunny day and loads of warships tied up.

Judging by the presence of masts on the ships it was well before that. The guy in charge was called Nelson.

I spoke to a rail worker yesterday about progress on opening of the new platform.
Apparently there is no planned date and the contractor sub contracted the roof to a firm and the workmanship has been poor. During the last heavy rain the roof badly leaked. Also the development needs signing off by the rail health & safety regulator which could take many months.
So much for it opening when the new timetable comes in effect on 2-6-2024.
When you ask anyone from Northern about it they just laugh and shake their heads.
I despair.

Its the bee in my bonnet so i have written to Northern Rail, Network Rail and our MP.
So far NR have responded saying it will open by the end of the year but no detail is given.
I await the reply from NR and the MP.
There is something seriously amiss with all of this as i have said previously. Its a small development which would greatly enhance rail travel as the 2 hourly express from Toon to the Boro and back will stop at the new platform 3.
Smelling a rat!

Even for Hartlepool this is very very poor and unexplained.

Jesus its happening, the new platform is opening on June 2nd when the timetables change.
Network Rail is my source.
At last.......only 12 months late.
I am waiting to see our illustrious politicians claiming credit for this shit show.
Apparently the roof leaks like hell.

Rejoice Rejoice!!!!

I remember being told to apply ABC to all matters by a copper years ago.

A=Assume nothing
B=Believe nobody
C=Check everything

Well i did and.............

I checked the new timetable (2nd June) and there was the new express every 2 hourly from Middlesbrough to Newcastle stopping at Hartlepool from 8.40am till 6.40pm. Great i thought.
Then i checked the returns from Newcastle to Middlesbrough and THEY DO NOT STOP AT HARTLEPOOL.
Its unbelievable that this is the situation.
So i am afraid this thread will still remain until at least December 2024 when the timetables change again.
I have the Samaritans number if anyone wants it.

The offices were in Church Square and are still there today, next to what was Smith and Grahams offices next to the interchange car park.
You’ve got to love the name although it was always referred to as ‘Steam Navvy’.

There was a brass plaque by the entrance to the hotel in Swainson Street that referenced West Hartlepool Steam and Navigation Company. Maybe it was its registered office at the time or meeting place? sctatchinghead

Surely there must be some trains from Newcastle that stop at Hartlepool.

That timetable is a nightmare to navigate…all the lettered options across the top are not catalogued so you have no idea what anything means.
All you need is a simple time table, but like the bus companies they over do it and assume we are incapable of understanding a basic timetable.
They make the things worse by trying to make them better.
Looks though as they’re throwing in a half hourly service only stopping at Newcastle , Sunderland and Middlesbrough…Hartlepool is classed alongside Seaton and Horden.

if someone with some idea about public transport is confused then how more confused would someone without that interest or a bit thick manage. suppose you could download one of those app things like everything else in life they want you to do.

Its supply and demand which time tables are based on, no rail company is going run empty trains at off peak times unless subsidised.

In effect it appears some places are getting an half hour service and the rest the same old cobblers

The Newcastle to Middlesbrough expresses will pass through Hartlepool station at 10mph and NOT stop. That is my issue. Hartlepool station is well used and it is a town of 90,000 people.

I’ll swear people outside the town think we’re the size of Easington.
What’s it gonna add to the journey …4 mins max.?

Yes please my sort code is 05-09-75 Yorkshire bank York Road.

The Yorkshire branch that was in Church Street was 05-09-74. Only old gits have that as their sort code. bbolt
