Died age 73…remember going to see him back in the day, funny thing is this morning I picked up the wife and for some reason she was talking about music and she mentioned him asking me who was with us when we went to see him, then now she’s just told me he’d died ….spooky

Very sad. I thought he was a proper pop star. Most Cockney Rebel albums still sound good today, especially the early stuff, and the lyrics were inventive too, Steve had a way with words.

The mid 60s to mid 70s were such a golden period for rock music.

Very true. Always loved the line in ‘Mr Soft’: “Put your feet upon the waters and play Jesus for a day”

Went to see him in Harrogate last June he had a stick as he’d recently broke his hip but he was fantastic wanting to chat in between songs about the songs and his life and times. I’d bought his first three albums back in the day. RIP Steve nice fella great performer

Last saw him doing a talk show in Darlington - class, sheer class - nice guy - told the story behind 'Make me smile' and then played it as it had originally been written - one of the angriest songs ever. RIP

Born in the East End of London, Cockney Rebel has been my user name on a few sites for many a year.

RIP Steve

I used to work with a guy called Nigel Nice. I once dropped him off at his house after a meeting and went in for a cuppa. He introduced me to his brother Steve who looked vaguely familiar. It wasn’t until I next spoken to Nigel that I found out that his brother’s stage name was Steve Harley. As a PS I read recently that Steve Wright’s best mate at school was Steve Harley’s brother Nigel.

I’m going back to 2002/03/04 ish. Shortly after that Nigel moved to Spain to set up a property management business.
