just heard something in the background on the box. made me think after they said they joined the police to help others. once they joined to nick the wrong uns and bang them up. have we become a nation of social workers who prefer to listen and help than put the handcuffs on and drag em to the nick.

We’re attracting the humanities degree graduates to the police now, notorious for their freelance flower arranging and empathy skills.

This from the Gv U.K. website how to join the police,
It's a 3 year work-based programme that leads to a degree in Professional Policing Practice. You can apply through your chosen force. If you want to work in non-emergency response situations you could do a serious and complex crime investigator degree apprenticeship.

Jamie, can you stop addressing me like you’re the spokesman trying to educate the audience at a public meeting.
I know what’s involved from my youngest son.

With Ratboy and Ruby ‘straining at the leash’ to get out and start sniffing in the sand dunes first thing it’s a bit stressful…the equivalent of water skiing on sand and boy are they strong…I ‘ve got biceps like Popeye.

about time you two kiss and make up or are one or the other attempting to stifle discussion on this and other topics. better to start a comment without a reply to anothers above it just to make it less personal.

don,t change as i will never, but you have to remember nowadays that people take it personal if your views differ from yours or mine. its hard to have an opinion if you do not follow any majority party line as you are some ist, phobic, or an axe to grind. so many just want to be popular with others and part of the gang and refuse to slag off players most like or the opposite. possibly also why we were told in the past never to discuss religeon and politics if you want an easy life.

The great thing about being retired is there are no more aresholes you have to humour, sets you free to rediscover yourself. :-D

I heard someone say if you want to be told the truth, ask an under five year old or a grandfather.

Littering, the reason i bring this up a Hartlepool lad was fined £400+ for dropping a cigarette butt, the article didn’t mention how he was caught, he didn’t help his case by not turning up in court albeit it was in the Boro. do we have Litter Wardens patrolling the streets of Hartlepool now ?

A few years ago I was parked up outside Wynyard shops with my oppo and we saw a middle-aged woman come out of a shop. She lit a cigarette while talking to another woman and she stubbed it on the pavement when was done…like a scene from a comedy sketch, this lad appeared from nowhere with a clipboard and started taking down details, doubtless going to get a fine…… the lad remained in a shop doorway and several minutes later a group of four lads, late teens early 20’s came along messing about throwing what looked like pop corn at each other….our eager beaver looked the other way…my mate put his window down and said …‘not so brave now son, stick to old ladies eh?”
I wish I’d said it.

sounds like the old saying of where are the police when you need em. there must be something wired into them to avoid being around when things kick off.

I was more concerned with the Council employee’s double standards ….wasn’t a police matter.

know that but it could easily have turned into one if the woman had kicked off and refused to comply. all i,m saying is that they,d have arrived quicker for her than they would for the pop corn group.

Another thing I don't like is being punished for someone else's actions. Just been to Iceland for our twice monthly shopping of the frozen kind. We have gone to the same store for over 10 years and most of the staff know us quite well. But today a big problem occurred when I approached a member of staff to get our " free trolley " token. I was informed that the tokens are no longer avaliable, so I asked if I could change of a £5 note and was flatly refused. It turns out that Iceland no longer allow you to obtain £1 coin from the store or a free token to get a trolley. I asked why and was told its no longer policy due to the odd trolley going missing or being taken home by the shopper. I was all for saying sod Iceland I will take my business elsewhere, but her I must obey decided we would use the baskets and make three trips to the car and back. rakxe I spoke to the manager who agreed it was unfair but she then said " that's what happens when someone abuses the system " rakxe So basically Iceland are tarring us all with the same brush. banghead This goes to show these companies make that much profit they don't care about the customers I very much doubt a local shop could survive by fooooking off its best customers. rakxe rakxe rakxe .

They’re talking bollocks who thought that one up, probably some ‘ NIgels’ in head office came up with it who never shop there.
Because if you want to pinch a trolley, put the pound in and walk off with it, good value for a quid.

I often think how many bags of sea coal could I get in a trolley. It would be a bugger pushing it though.

If I remember correctly the trollies in Iceland in the shopping centre had a big pole attached meaning you couldn’t take them out of the shop.
A supermarket trolley costs in excess of £100 to replace so I can understand there reasoning but why not pay a deposit say £5 refundable when you return it.
Another option is get your shopping delivered, I used to see loads of people doing there shopping in Iceland leave it there for delivery, free if you spend over a certain amount.

Most people use the two Iceland branches outside the town centre……they’re being stupid and once you offend a regular customer they have plenty of other options, loyalty is conditional in the retail business as the wife tells me and that was her job..

Funnily enough there was a court case last week in the Mail of a woman urinating in the street. Now I don’t approve, but the fines she had to pay were mind popping running into hundreds of pounds….and what exactly are the ‘victim surcharges’ they slap on, who was the victim…. sctatchinghead

I gather that the victim surcharge goes into a fund to pay compensation to victims of crime. So for example if some old codger gets beaten up and robbed by some penniless drug addict, they would get paid compensation from the money charged to those who had committed other crimes. Of course the penniless drug addict pays nowt to no one.

My daughter was badly beaten up when she was 16, we applied for compensation, nope you have to bring charges, she didn’t want to for fear of retribution later.

Most people use the two Iceland branches outside the town centre……they’re being stupid and once you offend a regular customer they have plenty of other options, loyalty is conditional in the retail business as the wife tells me and that was her job..

when you set off from home driving the car all the rules and regulations we have to suffer are based not on a good driver but the ones who struggle doing the job or the lowest common denometer on the road. when its busy and kids are about you should know to slow down and not being told to do with speed restriction signs. same with nearly every roundabout coming on and off the motorway. you do not needs lights on them as they were not at the outset but so many cannot or do not know how to use one. its a bad job when you see someone with a L plate making better progress than many who somehow passed a test.

I’m convinced some drivers think speed limit signs refer to the minimum speed not the maximum speed.

Illuminated speed sign on Merlin Way just past Sainsbury’s tells you what your speed is, I am convinced some drivers speed up deliberately to see what they can get it up to.

that made me laugh. there was a village called marthem in norforlk who had one of these when i lived down there. thing was it wasn,t situated in the villiage but before you entered it. totally pointless but suspect it would have kept the non driving crowd happy. used by me and a guy who owned the arcade below me in hemsby just to see what we could get at that spot. he won because he had a faster merc than i had at the time.

possibly because they have driven though areas where they see no reason for that limit and drive to numbers rather than the conditions of the road. around my way we have a stretch of road that in less than a mile goes from the national speed limit to 40, then back where it was to 30 then 40 again for no reasons anyone can see. i just go about 45 and it pisses me off seeing them brake and accelerate over this stretch. once i had the gall to only drive at 20 on it due to snow but got the flashing headlight treatment because of this. as a nation we are obsessed with speed limits and any old group seem to get petitions up to lower them even if they cannot drive but flatly refuse to increase motorways to 80 which is safe in the right conditions even if you decide not to go that fast. Road rage might be kept to a minimum also if there was a minimum speed you can legally go on all roads which would stop even tractors being held up by selfish sods who think i,m happy and sod the rest following me. thats if they realise this anyway as i have my doubts.

I don't like vehicles that have fuel caps that are not attached. Maybe it's a thing of the past but I have lost a few over the years. Can you still buy any new cars with caps that are not attached.

SUV’s are a joke, the name Sports Utilty Vehicle says it all which would make the old Land Rover the ideal vehicle for the title….a vehicle for driving where you shouldn’t drive and happy getting dirty…. Instead we have these poncified saloons with a jacked up set of wheels posing as something they definitely are not.

Dumb little teenagers who have just passed their test and feel the need to park in the child parent parking without a child in site.

When Morrisons introduced the miniature shopping trolleys for kids, they created havoc running all over with them catching people’s ankles.

and people who are disabled for a short period of life like having a broken leg or ankle unable to park in them because they are refused a tempory disabled card when they are more disabled than those who legally can park there. her in the kitchen had a boot on and crutches for 6 months and i just ignored the signs and i had bullets ready to fire if someone tried to ticket us.

they seem to be getting restrictions on them in what they can or cannot do as well. if all this is happening it again could be the minority spoiling it for the majority and those using there vehicle not for the purposes they have been allowed to have one on the scheme. an example of this would be me coming up to the vic where i have the car only because someone in the household is disabled and i drive it for their benefit and not mine.

I had a relative who used her mothers badge all the time, she got a ticket and was whinging on about and I told her she deserved it for abusing it, yet everyone there turned on me for criticising her…….like I gave a monkey’s
As for charging for disabled parking, just because you’re disabled doesn’t mean you’re destitute….the blue badge holders of my acquaintance are quite comfortably off when it comes to money.
Sometimes sitting in supermarket car parks it’s interesting to watch who’s using them, a sort of education and eye rolling combined into a sport.

i spend a good deal of my time sitting in them as its more interesting than walking around inside. watching them reverse and park is a reason they should charge to park as its a real laugh. funny as well when they see you sat inside the car they park somewhere else as if they know quite well they,ll catch the side of a car when they open there doors and my smiling face says they,ll not get away with it with my old bangers.
