https://www.hartlepoolunited.co.uk/news ... s-on-loan/

I said last week that it made sense for Burton to go out on loan to an NLN side to get some game time as he's not been making the bench at Pools for a while. I doubt it means the end of the line for him with Pools - he's under contract for another year and still only 20.

I know some reckon he should be in the side but we don't see him in training. KP obviously doesn't think he's any more ready to step up than Sweens and Askey did.

From what Ive seen of him just not good enough for this league. Badly at fault for some of the goals when hes played.

unless he improves i cannot ever see him as a defender. could have a future in mid field though as he does look decent with the ball and looks better going forward. still think he could have a future with us if he tightens his defensive play up and makes better decisions when we are defending.

I'm not so sure he's so bad at defending to be fair, is he any worse than Fergy? Both have been made to look seriously poor this season because of lack of protection from midfield and cover from CBs.
Once we're in a position of guaranteed safety it would be worth giving him and others games to assess their future prospects.

it only got a mention about fergy,s poor defending when he was pushed into playing as a more central defender last season where he was abysmal. if we were on the front foot more he,d have less defending to do which is half the problem.

Fergy when isolated is not a good defender, when he's on his game he's probably among the best in the division going forward for a left back though. Agree when Burtons had licence to get forward he looks a different player in the limited appearances he's made.

He's not very good at defending.
Even in the NLN contributed to Darlo 9 0 defeat at Chorley.
Convert him to a left winger is the only option.

Only got to hope our 1st summer signing next season is a major upgrade or what's the point of the non takeover.
Other opinions are applicable like.

Given singh dismissed the consortium as not being as good an option for Pools as himself, I'm sure we can look fwd to big things in the summer from the current chairman.....

Not sure anyone's seen enough of Burton to make that comparison. sctatchinghead He's only started 2 games all season and one of those was at centre back. Fergie has only missed 2 games.

Hopefully he'll get the game time he needs at Chester, who look a fair bet for the NLN play-offs. The loan is to the end of the season

I like Burton so far, definitely raw but something to work with, think he would benefit from playing in a side high on confidence, I think he may even be an option in a holding midfield role, he would at least run around a bit unlike most of our midfield

Good point, I’d like to see him given a chance in midfield.

and far better than many loan players we sign up. getting kids in to replace our kids never sits well with me especially when these are well down the pecking order at their home clubs.

i said this before - he makes a much better left sided Midfielder- not so much a winger or even attacking for that case but he looks to have energy to go up an down. Carries the ball and can shoot. Think the last game i seen him he was like floating around the center of the park and nearly almost scored with his first run up the pitch. Again the lads only 20. You have to be something special to suddenly come from the league below an break into a team even as mediocre as ours. No doubt he will become a great player by time hes 25/26. Especially if he can keep the level of football hes playing at now or even higher getting into our NL side. (I would say league side but he will be retired by time that happens).

wasn,t it the game at altrincham that he made his debut in. unless i am mistaken i thought he made one of our goals but was at fault in one of them they scored. a mixed bag of a performance that at least showed some plusses as well as minuses. he,s a young lad where this is going to happen. we have had others young lads who have never had a single plus in a game or really get involved in it but get another chance quickly after their debut but these are called loan players.

The other full game he played was the 4-1 home defeat by Bromley. He was all at sea in that one but so was the rest of the defence - probably the weakest side Pools have put out all season. KP obviously isn't seeing what some of you are - Burton has not had a minute on the pitch since Phillips took over.

It’s all about opinions and as he obviously hasn’t seen him play in a competitive game he’s acting on the advice of someone who doesn’t rate him.
Good for him to get some game time in.

Hope he does do well. Right now what he needs more than anything else is a good run of games in somebody's side - only played 8 games all season including the 6 at Darlo.

yes he struggled defensively but was given little help from those around him against a decent side at this level-i think further up the pitch may suit him more especially at this stage

We need players like him, aygemang and dodds--athletes who can get around the pitch--havent had that for far too long and we are so slow and outran because of it.

It’s all right saying we need young players who get about the pitch but they have to be good enough.

Burton got sent off on debut for Chester on Saturday for 2 yellow cards, but played again last night. How did that happen? I thought a sending off for 2 yellows was an automatic 1 game ban?

Takes a few days before it comes into operation or if an appeal is put in then delayed. Sure they would know when the suspension is.

Maybe the suspension doesn’t come into force for 7days in our league. I don’t know but that may be an explanation. Surely Chester couldn’t have dropped such a clanger.

"Can yellow cards be appealed? There is an event in which a yellow card can be appealed. While clubs can't normally lodge an appeal for a sending-off as a result of a double booking, they can if it is due to mistaken identity."

If the ref has mistaken Burton's blonde mohican/mullet cross for any other player in a Chester shirt he's got serious eye trouble.
There's a few minutes of highlights on the Chester FC website - the second booking is for dissent and the ref definitely knows who he's talking to. The first yellow card isn't shown.
