Kevin Phillips has kept us up. After a great start, Askey was taking us into a relegation fight.

Now we only need one win and a couple of draws to guarantee safety, in what is a competitive bottom half of the table this season.

The issue Phillips has is the impact he had was immediate and had fans (me included) dreaming of playoffs.

He achieved what he was employed to do potentially 'too quickly' from an expectation point of view.

Whether it was Phillips or Monks we signed Parkes, Waterfall, Dickenson, Kahn & Senior which gave us a solid CB pairing and some wide players we were missing.

Dickenson isn't fit and hasn't been interested in working hard, Seniors 1 month loan was up and the other 3 are injured. The new players, added to the existing squad gave us belief we could beat anyone, without them our squad is poor.

Phillips has exceeded expectations. The three newer loanees who started yesterday aren't experienced enough to fill in for the ones they are replacing.

The question mark on what Phillips can achieve depends on whether Raj is willing to sanction the signings of the calibre of Waterfall & Parkes for next season, as we need another 4-5 on top of:

Dodds
Waterfall
Parkes
Crawford
Mancini
Cooke
Grey
Umerah
Mani D

Lets start to tie down key players who are out of contract and sign players in key positions we are lacking.

with any luck KP might end up a lucky manager which for me is better than a good one if he gets his summer recruitment spot on.

Predicting that KP and Monks will bring in poorer players based on what Hartley,Curle, Askey, Lee, and the previous head of recruitment did isn't very clever imo.
Basing what we bring in on cost and wages isn't either because we know absolutely nothing about those matters do we?
If I didn't go into every new season not expe ting it to be an improvement on the previous I'd give up, the fact that we rarely achieve our expectations is hardly unique to us as football supporters. I'll bet York fans thought they'd be challenging Chesterfield.

KP hasn’t kept Pools up we are 8 points of a relegation spot, 9 games to go, Pools could find themselves battling relegation if we lose a few games.

Pro's

Got the team up for it and got some wins on the board when a relegation battle looked likely
Got senior players like Cooke and Ferguson playing better
Team buying into what he says, while we havent been great every game the effort is always there
Not afraid to change things when its not working
Generally realistic in interviews and recognizes when the oppo are a relatively good side

Con's

Still no clean sheets and not looking like getting one
Hasnt sorted shitshow in midfield (tho Aygemang signing suggests he recognizes it)
Hasnt sorted out utter clown show in goal
The fact we seem to struggle first half andf have to change it suggests he isnt getting initial selections right
Signings generally hits and misses though thats understanable this time of the season

Overall

next season is huge with the deadwood off teh wages, sadly am not convinced he will get backed fully by Raj, or be good enough to compensate for that, hopefully wrong, as next season really is pivotal

Your user name is obviously an complete oxymoron

I’m loyal to the club, not to players/managers who have been here 5 minutes I judge them on what I see and I whether or not they are helping the club therethere

The term ‘loyal fan’ to me always represent those well meaning but gullible die hards who are so eye wateringly optimistic they think Glenn Miller’s plane is just delayed and believe 101% in their club, so much so it’s an obsession that clouds their judgement.
They never pull the club down or criticise it even when it needs criticising.
So change your name to …’Sympathetic but disappointed Poolie’…or something similar……..a mouthful , but more descriptive of your viewpoint.
Happy to help.

Please I can barely spell loyal….or fan come to think
Of it !

Do you realise how many posts and threads you have put up on here since yesterday?
Ridiculous.
As well as your comical footie knowledge and appreciation, which i must admit always gives me the giggles, you clearly must lead a very sad life matey.
Why not take a breather and have a day off eh?
And get yourself to a game occasionally.. it might help you understand things a bit more.
Maybe.

So you have mixed feelings on my posts it seems ?

Personally I’m waiting for the close season to see what players KP can bring in. At present the choice of loan/free players is very limited whereas in the close season there will be unlimited players looking for clubs after being released. At the present time imo only two of the seven or eight players he has brought in have been a success whilst I appreciate some have hardly played.

KP has started off exactly how i thought he would not - so hes been an absolute pleasure so far to have at the club. He has seen a depleted side get beaten off 2 of the better teams in this division this season. No harm done. We didnt get mullered off Barnet as we would of under JA so thats a bonus. The weaknesses are still there for all to see - somehow we havnt managed to even find a half decent RB replacement for Sterry since the season began which is a thorn in the teams side for me. Also Mancini being out for me is killing any hope in hell we have of even touching 7th place now. The season is done, its back to being realistic and just staking a claim for 9th or 10th spot.
Its good what he or Joe have done recruitment wise, but again just now we are back to bringing in crap teenagers. One we have seen already and was way out his depth. Its a shame the Kahn and Duffus loans have not worked out too. But this is always the NL lottery when it comes to loans.

We just have to hope the 2 lads at the back are fit and Stephenson can come back in at RB. Mancini needs to be back in the side sooner rather than later too. Some more tough tests coming our way but i think we have enough to weather the storm. Also if i was KP id be looking for another CM if we know Mancini isnt going to feature again this season !

Im sure KP will have a good idea what is needed now for us to be a success in this league next season
