He is just a superb footballer. He is good at scoring goals but if he wasn't he would make a living as a defender. One of our very best signings of recent years in my opinion.

As Mickey Barron said on the live stream "he's no prima donna is he?". He was huge all over the pitch today.

I thought Ferguson played really well today too. He looks like a different player since Phillips came in.

It's such a breath of fresh air having two decent center backs though. B Wood must have had about ten corners and not once was I thinking "aw shite - here we go..."

Gateshead v Pools on 9th March rearranged due to their FA Trophy game.
Still be a good turnout of Poolies.

Cooke was instrumental in Pools getting on top in the first half. Was less effective during Cheatwood’s spell of pressure in the 2nd half, so it was a good substitution.

Interesting that Louis Stephenson is ahead of Burton and Pruti in KP’s thoughts. Think they could be the next to leave.

We improved when Cooper came on,but even more when Stephenson came on,who got on the ball & drove us forward.
The midfield of Feath,Cooke & Crawford is just too slow & immobile.

Personally I thought Waterfall shaded it for MoM but it’s a pleasure to watch this central defensive partnership after the dross of the last couple of seasons. Love how Waterfall times and directs his headers - they always go into good areas of the pitch for Pools. You do wonder if young Academy players are doing enough heading practice these days - got sick of watching Foran last season or Johnson this head it straight up in the air! I suppose there is the health aspect nowadays.

Also, Dixon is a man transformed behind these two. Looks like a keeper worth holding onto now.

As a 3 yes, none of them are quick. But Feaths and Crawford both had good games today and KO has rightly praised Cooky’s passing ability.

Thought the midfield did well 1st half, Cooke brings a lot to the team in terms of vision and passing ability, none of the other midfielders on the books can do what he does when he's on song. 2nd half they tried to nullify our midfield by pressing high and forcing us to go long for a period and it was working for them. Thought the subs all made a difference and good to see we have real options in the squad now.
Referee was the worst we've had this season at the Vic.

Parkes and Waterfall have made a huge difference since they came in. Massive signings for the club. Just look at the difference it's made to the keeper and the lads defending on the wings that we've got two solid center backs.

And then Waterfall goes and scores with a hammered toe poke as well. Brilliant.

Agree, think we'd have lost that 4 or 5 weeks ago, they'd have bullied us out of it.
Showed great character after a late disappointment last week then going behind in 12 or so seconds. Really good to see that we can find a way to score 3 against what was overall a fairly robust outfit.

Totally agree...those two are winners and proper footballers. I hope it's rubbing off on the younger defenders. Must say Waterfall is a brilliant leader and surely must be made captain for next season.

Joe more than made up for his mistake last week and is now starting to develop into a really good player. He is scoring more and his overall play is much improved since KP came in. Next season I can see him hitting 20 plus with KP passing on all his know how and experience.

Redemption is allowed.
Nice for Joe to respond positively in the next game. Always gives 100% and a underrated player.
I'm not the only one to of given Fergy a bit of stick this season. Looks a new player under KP.
End of the season KP will know who's earned the right to be part of next seasons Promotion Objective.

The future is a lot brighter now Hartley Curle Askey have gone.
In KP we trust.

I am glad this guy is getting the plaudits he and Parkes deserves. Love his mentality. You think you’re going to get past me and parksy. No fucking chance. Reminds me of Tony Adam’s

There were about 50 of them, for some reason put in the southern end of the Cyril Knowles stand next to the town end with no segregation. It was getting a bit aggravated so they then moved the bottom 20 into the rink end.

Solid...really???

For me Mani O epitomises the kind of weak as piss Timid Timi type central defender we have had to put up with almost exclusively since the days of Ben Clark and Sam Collins over 10 years ago.

Bit of pace but lacks physicality and aggression, gets bullied and doesn't bully, not commanding in the air doesn't attack the ball and wins absolutely nowt at corners and set pieces, and of course a la Timi is always likely to get his legs tangled up, lose a man or produce an absolute howler.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtwP3VtOJBw at 01.54 for example.

BTW how is Timi doin these days ??...the new Rio

Nothing to do with him not being rated - KP went out of his way to praise him after the York game. It’s just that Pools have stopped playing 5 at the back. About time too!

As I said, have a listen to his interviews post-York. Obviously doesn’t rate him the way he rates Waterfall and Parkes - neither does any fan - but he’s making the bench for every game.

Obviously none of the current players but he was never really at fault when we were conceding, he did do some great last ditch tackles, did KP recognise a weakness or did Sweeney mention some thing to KP about him when he was made the manager ?
Of all the defenders who weren’t performing it was Ferguson but like Dixon KP appears to have revitalised them.

Nothing to do with him not being rated....you say..

How do you know KP rates him or is that a daft question?

As I said, have a listen to his interviews post-York. Obviously doesn’t rate him the way he rates Waterfall and Parkes - neither does any fan - but he’s making the bench for every game.

KP said Mani O didn't sulk after being dropped and put in a decent performance after being brought on as a sub.
One comment one game.
So if that means in your mind KP "rates him" then fine.
I don't know if KP rates him or not... but I would doubt it on the basis that KP in all other respects so far appears to know what the f/k he is doing ... but who knows.
But lets see where Mani O is playing next season eh??
Maybe he goes to Bradford on a 2 year deal and gets no games,,, so is loaned out elsewhere in lower leagues and still gets no games??
My guess is he won't be at Pools although he has a year left on his contract ...and I personally certainly will be shedding no tears.

You’re entitled to your opinion Poolie 1. I think the likes of Lacey, Pruti and Burton will be down the road ahead of him, but next season’s squad isn’t the priority just now.

Mani O will be fine playing alongside either of the senior 2 CBs and no doubt it'll happen due to suspension or injuries before the season ends. I reckon he'd be OK in a 3 with the full backs both moving up into midfield if we're chasing a game. We need more than 2CBs for next season and Mani O can do a job imo.
