Barclays Bank in York Road is to close in May, so no Barclays Bank in the town anymore…funny, but I drive past that place on a regular basis and there’s always a queue waiting for it to open.
I love how they blithely tell the customers there’s branches at Stockton and Middlesbrough as though it’s just around the corner.
Personally, if my bank did that it would be my ex bank.

Same thing happened with HSBC.
But can use the post office now occasionally sharing the queue with the morning Bagheads.

Thinking back about how these organisations Rupert’s look at a map in London and say “Oh, that’s just around the , they can go there”……I remember going into B&Q before it closed and they had these drones giving out info on how Portrack was your new ‘local branch’ and giving out vouchers for Portrack.
I told the bloke that this was my last ever visit to B&Q and if they thought I’d visit that god foresaken freezing warehouse and take the journey from hell to get there he was sniffing something….never stepped in one since?
Mind you, funny how after they left new owners took over the retail park and it’s booming now.

I had to use the banking app the other day, my card was blocked for some reason to withdraw money from an ATM, first time, very simple, log in on the app, select how much you want point the phone at the ATM QR Code after you have selected cashless withdrawal on the ATM, hey presto out pops the money. No waiting for the machine to read your card, definitely the way forward for me and you don’t have to be carrying a card with you.

just thinking that this is two ongoing threads that have multiplied because of the covid outbreak. seems to have been a boom for some wanting to alter the way we live our lives. how would they have sold it to us if that outbreak had never happened. you can also add the culture wars to all this that hardly gained a headline prior to it.

You have a National Insurance number, what’s the difference ?
If you nothing to hide what are you worried about, the millions you stashed ? Every time you log on to the net or use your mobile you are being tracked.

best thing to fuck em up is having two phones in different names and addresses and take the one with the wrong information around with you.

Yes, you can use your phone to pay in shops as well, days of cash and cards are numbered. Parking on the Marina is done using the app on your phone as is I believe parking machines in the town.

What have to got to hide, are you not an upstanding citizen ?
You could buy what they call burner phones, buy a load of cheap phones and SIM cards then throw in them away every time you use one.

TBH i aint visited my branch ( Yorkshire / Virgin) for years even now banking cheques on my phone. The banks have a policy of getting rid of them due to cost so anyone wanting to continue with branches best move to a building society like the Nationwide as they have a slight social conscious.
Its a shame as its a loss of good well paid jobs and a further emptying of the High Street.

Don't worry about ATMs, they will be a thing of the past as we enter the Cashless society.

I feel sorry for people who want to talk to somebody in person as opposed to some call centre.

I haven’t got a smartphone. I don’t see why I should be pushed into getting one tbh. I have a mobile phone, it’s a goodun too, just not “smart”.

I also have a paper driving licence - it causes quite a scene sometimes but perfectly legal.

Poor argument, using the old secret police routine reply is no answer.
We all have a right to privacy in our boring everyday lives and don’t want it to be accessible to the world.

once our only fear was having your cash stolen by a dipper. it never happened once to me and all i have done is lost the odd note i pulled out of my pocket by accident. its not some government big brother we need to worry about but our accounts being scammed. . everytime your info is sent out gives you a bigger chance of this happening. shoplifting is rife and for me this is a personal type of shoplifting but we cannot add to the price to offset this. its happened to me twice, same with her in the kitching and nearly everyone else you come into contact with. another question, pre covid this cashless thing was hardly mentioned and just something else we have had pushed on us that started in that period. a good issue for the conspiracy theorists me thinks.

You could say that started when companies insisted your wages were paid directly into the bank, you then had to find a method to withdraw it of which there are many nowadays.

You could when it started 50:years ago…..but the banks have much more info about you now…but cash stops them and government having total control of you. When cash goes control will be on the hands of the system and criminals because they always find a way to screw the system.

and the criminals now will always be one step infront of the law and the banks who spend their time on stopping one scam only to find another one that replaces it.

Barclays says it still plans to provide “face to face” support for customers after the impending closure of its Hartlepool high street branch, in Tescos ?
