That’s putting it mildly, just like Uncle Joe, the man who praises his Irish ‘roots’ but turns out most of his ancestors had English roots.
Now that’s a politician at work.

I tnink it’s an English thing were most people don’t really want to make a fuss over it…whereas the Scot’s, Irish and Welsh are a bit more nationslistic tub thumpers.
Plus, it always boils down basically to getting blotto.

The only time the English become nationalistic is when England are playing in a football tournament. Shops sell out of England shirts, flags are flying from cars etc.

The thing about the Scots, Irish and Welsh is they’re competing in the tallest dwarf competition as we outnumber them all by 10 to 1 in numbers.

No one does 7/8 yrs in prison these days unless it is for murder. Whatever sentence is handed down is automatically halved and then reduced further by good behaviour. Most crims would prefer a couple of years dossing in prison than having to endure physical training and risking being shot at in the event of conflict.

Indeed, our blue haired non binary types would have mutiple mental health breakdows and be invalided out with a massive compensation package if subjected to military discipline.

That be against their Human Rights to fight for King and Country... They are entitled to be lazy and live off the state after being jobless for about 15 years....

Yep. They are "vulnerable". Innit.

When Capital Punishment was abolished (which I agree with) it was said that life would mean life……which I definitely agree with….. but then we discovered life meant no such thing.
We have the ludicrous state of affairs now where sentences are halved so a 20:year sentence in reality is a five year sentence… so, how about a ten year sentence is a ten year sentence and if you’re a bad boy you serve even longer. :angry-tappingfoot:

The Russians use such troops in a very specific way. Very brutal but not entirely ineffective.

Read several books on the subject re Warsaw Pact forces (now long gone) but numbers/boots on the ground are useful, even if not front line material.

Front line material? Seems the Russians gauge that in a very different way. The term 'meat wave' has been coined in Ukraine.

They do have their good troops but not in great numbers, they won’t be wasting them in Ukraine, but to be honest seeing the trouble they’re having in Ukraine they’re a danger to themselves…I also suspect their soldiers are reluctant soldiers.

When a country is a dictatorship, it is perfectly possible to treat human life with scant regard hence the "meat wave" tactics. This tactic was used in WWII, with the Red Army having eye watering casualty figures compared to the Western Allies. In a democracy the "meat wave" strategy would never be allowed. Imagine the Guardian and the rest of the mainstream media if we started using the battlefield tactics Putin uses? Nope, we are a liberal democracy so if one want to spend a lifetime on benefits and casual criminalty one can do so very easily.

Because of censorship Putin can do no wrong, anyone who speaks out against him tends to fall out a hotel window or is killed in a plane crash like mercenary leader fella.
Thailand is currently awash with Russians more so Phuket so they say, where I live in Pattaya you can’t walk a few paces without hearing the very guttural harsh accent and that’s only the women ?

I see Private Pike (Ian Lavender) has passed away today aged 77, apparently he was the last surviving main character of the series. RIP.

I recall seeing the first episode in 67 ..still at school….in black and white…classic gentle comedy.
