Landfill Armageddon

Down the Headland this morning and a huge blast of thick black smoke shots up as the Landfill at Seaton erupts.
Thick column of smoke drifting over the bay from the tyre dump..cloud that thick it’s casting a shadow over the sea as it drifts towards the lighthouse.

A tip created courtesy of Able U.K., this was a flat field in the 70s but it has just kept ‘growing’, there must be some real nasties in there judging by the black smoke. Where else in the U.K. would a company be allowed to create a tip so close to where people live, if the fire gets deep inside it will take for ever to extinguish. It would be intense to know what source of ignition was, a build up of heat from the nasties buried there ?

It’s the tyre pile, it’s just tyre’s which is bad enough, but they’re exposed and been there quite a while.

I thought tyres could be recycled to replace tar macadam for road surfaces ?
