Bbc will be showing a live match from there this week. Durham v man city ladies, should be a cup classic, well according to the bbc who still try to push it in our faces.

You don't have to watch. It's not a condition of the licence fee. And women make up 51% of the UK population.

Funny how some people on here make a big deal of ignoring the Premier League but can't seem to do the same with women's football.

No nobody has to watch but whys it pushed so much? Imagine if pools were being pushed by the bbc everyday, some of these teams cant even muster more than 1500 and quite a lot of that is free tickets.

plus many women also have no interest in their own sex playing football but will watch the blokes playing it either on the box or live. they do not feel the same of traditional popular sports like tennis.

Is it though? I just has a look at the Football page on BBC Sport (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football) and about 1 in 10 of the articles is about women' football.

Yes, the BBC go right overboard if it's the women's world cup or suchlike but don't they always? Same if it's a slow news day for men's football like pre-season. There's no denying there's a growth in interest in football among women and loads of girls are taking up the sport. Seriously, what's wrong with that?

Nothing wrong but if you charge 20 quid to watch it live the crowds at most clubs would be greyfields level only 5 or 6 teams in the whole country can muster anything.

Just a small example of how much they push it aston villa women v evertons women is mentioned in the fixtures before league 1 league 2 and national league, tommorow if you went round the country and asked who won, id doubt anyone who wasnt there would have a clue who won or let alone it was even on. So how come all of a sudden these games are deemed more important than games below the championship?

I agree that there's no real argument for muddling up the league tables like that - I'd put it down as much as anything to the Beeb's obsession with the Man Us of this world. They behave as if the Premier League is the only thing that matters - and now the WSL by association because all the 'top' teams have female replicas.

Your point on crowds is already out of date - there's no denying attendances for women's football are growing. Durham Women are charging £18 for the cup tie (£10 for U-16s).
I doubt they'll be giving any away as they are independent of the big money men's clubs. Can only be a matter of time before they're swallowed up by the Mags. Pity really - they're a proper grass roots women's side.

For a laugh some body ( who knows sod all about footy)bought me a football annual for kids for a laugh.
I’ll be honest, I couldn’t be arsed with em when I was a kid, but found it in the left over bag of presents in the dining room that you don’t know what to do with sctatchinghead
I thought I’d flick through it and bin it, but found it had a full page action shot of the Women’s team on every other page, are girls buying this annual now?
It’s in the bin.

I think they’re working on the principle that if they shout about it long enough we’ll join in the pretence.
When I see women saying they ‘re going to start going regularly I’ll believe it.
My youngest daughter had a pools season ticket but rolls her eyes when you even mention women’s football.

Womens footy is all the BBC can afford nowadays, of course they are going to push/advertise it. Pretty sure if they had the rights for the championship etc they'd be more prominent.

If they ended up with the one eyed transginger lesbian dwarf all England extreme conker finals they’d plug it to destruction.

To be honest, I'd be more likely tune into that than women's premier league just to see what is was all about.

Is transginger just wearing a red wig.

Yes but the average crowd in the womens prem is 5000 which is heavily boosted by some games played at the bigger grounds. Man united the 2nd largest team had just 4000 a couple of games ago, less than what pools get for a game against gateshead. Are crowds really taking off? Or getting more popular? Not convinced just yet. One offs definately.

exactly. they feel this need to show sport which means any sport you can think of as long as its cheap and nobody else wants it. if womens football does get popular they,ll lose that as well and be stuck only with kids football on a sunday in the end out of the craven and district league.
