Had to happen, the players weren't doing it for him.
Would imagine it'll be Sweeney in charge until the earlier of - Raj pulls the plug, end of season, new owners in place.

One good manager in 6 years of Raj  We have more managers on the pay roll than most clubs employ in 20 years. rakxe

Mixed emotions on this one.
Was really hoping Askey was a long termer who’d get us competing and potentially back in the EFL but currently we’re sleep walking into NLN

It will be some half baked cheap option, we actually have a few easy
Games coming up so I expect a mini bounce that ultimately keeps
Us up*

*assuming we actually get a fit striker on the books this week

It was the only option (Askey going) after today and a string of away games against teams near the bottom....like we are.
Nice enough chap, but you can't change the team too much can you? But with 4 wins in our last 20 league games, that is woeful for a team that has just come down from league 2 and not been forced to sell the majority of that squad.

Post match interview..

"Obviously, firstly, the same things happened again"

He's said this far too many times to stay in any job at a managerial level. He just can't sort this out. Whether someone else can remains to be seen.

Feel really sorry for JA. Wasnt expecting it because of the possible takeover and the fact he had two year contract and would cost a lot to pay off. Thought Raj would leave well alone, after all, he's selling so why should he give a fook? .........Unless he actually does give a fook. Anyway, i wish JA the best of luck for the future and hope he gets a job with players who are not so awkward.

I am bothered who we get in that I hope we get a competant manager. Agree 100% it will be a thankless task trying to get the current crop of wasters to pull together and somehow start caring about the club they purport to playing for.

Gutted for JA- the players have got him Sacked and should be ashamed of themselves - their meant to be professional FFS. They should have half a clue as to how to defend and not need to be told where to stand, who to pick up at every set piece/ phase of play.

No leadership whatsoever on the pitch. Nobody with any stones that will fight for the cause. All we want is some EFFORT and for them to be less pea- hearted than the majority appear.

Only Manni D has put a shift in every week and he's now goosed after single handedly carrying the team on his back all season since Mancini and Dodds got injured. Would quite happily drive the rest of the spineless fuckers, to their next club.

I'm so angry - we've had a lot worse players down the years than most of this lot- but the can't be fucked attitude of the majority is abhorrent. They need to decide if they want to play football for a career or whether they'd rather earn a proper crust like the rest of us- who whilst lacking football ability, would pull on the shirt for nowt- but would at least show some fight and commitment rather than just embarrass the very loyal and dedicated fanbase.

We know we've always been shite, barring a few spells of relative success down the years. But we'll all still be here when they've all fucked off.
It's our club, that represents our town- and conceding soft goals in the first five minutes of every game is not acceptable. They need to either shape up or fuck off. I'd scatter the lot of them bar ManiD, Mancini & Dodds.

Think Raj missed a trick when we missed out on Pete Wild from Halifax- look at the job he's done at Barrow.

Only one man for me who can drive this shit show to safety and I'd give it to ' 'Flash' Gordon Watson- did a quality interview on Switch of Play-and has a real affinity for the club and the town. Wouldn't take any prisoners and would have loads of contacts (think he's currently scouting for Southampton)

If not Flash, then Tommy Widdrington, another that knows the score with the fanbase and would hopefully build a team in his no nonsense playing style- he's certainly getting a tune out of Aldershot at the minute- on what must be a smaller budget than what we have available.

I doubt Flash would give up his current place of abode in Costa Rica and his job as a host on BetUS football Chamnnel.Tommy Widdrington would be a gamble Pools could well do without, tbh I have no idea about a new manager.
If a take over is imminent I can see Sweeney and McGuckin being in place as and when if the takeover takes allowing the new owners to appoint their choice of manager.

I suspect this was a damned if you sack him and damned if you don’t scenario.
Nothing was changing on the field and the tactics were nailed in place securely and immovable.
All signs of an inflexible sign of persisting with an idea to the point of lunacy.
The players appear to be be reluctant participants, and while you always get some who get disheartened, this was nearly the whole squad.
Which again begs the question as to how they respond now he’s departed.
Personally I found him rather uninsipring, no motivator, but we all have different perceptions so that’s par for the course.
So I’m not jumping to any conclusions till I see the players response on the field, we won’t have long to wait.
Criticising the players at this stage is pointless…because if we do find some form, the fickle fan syndrome will kick in and they’ll be forgiven in an instant
Always been a funny old game, winning games cures and forgives everything.

I want the next manager if there is one to be a tough geezer. Old fashioned no nonsence
Who can install discipline and is a good motivator. Someone like Cyril Knowles type. Any ideas lads. Don’t want Sweeney in charge

I wouldn't like to see Sweens in permanent charge either - for his own sake, however much he might relish the role. He would be mad to accept the poisoned chalice. Ok - he's been part of the coaching staff during this debacle, but not the one calling the tune.
As the manager, he would eventually get the sack, & his service to the club is not deserving of such an end

Neil Warnock in charge for the rest of the season would be a tough geezer, old fashioned, no nonsense and would lick them into some sort of shape.

He lives on the South Coast now doesn't he? So considering we definitely don't need a part time manager I can't see him moving up here.
More likely if there is an appointment it'll be someone who lives locally and it'll be short term - Mowbray is available, but more likely they'll be looking at Arca or Tommy Miller.

but are we in a worse position yesterday than a month back. so sweens will get the job on a temporary basis starting with a must win game on saturday without a striker to play. what will raj do, keep sweens in the job till we get a few bodies back and appoint someone after the injury crisis is over and start winning again. he can stand proud then by saying how good a decision he has made. we know some of our players seem to lack heart and others have played better before for us. however if fight is not in your DNA then why go the extra mile when you know deep down you are only playing because someone is out and you are guarenteed a spot because there is nobody else. the thing is everyone of them will get a club when they leave pools however bad they have been for us even if we do not think they will. at least askey can explain at his next interview the reasons for his sacking and that would certainly wash for me.

more like orca or max miller. the worst appointment we can make is somebody with a name like mowbray who has never managed at this level with the scrap he has to work with. there must be some younger manager who is working his own mini miracle in the national league north or south who would love a crack at pools with its ground and fanbase instead of somewhere where 300 is a big gate under some tin sheds with a few seats in them.

As much as I like Sweeney - it's no good him taking over, as the players clearly don't respond to him either.

No-ones mentioned Phil permo tan Brown. Would certainly raise the media profile of the club as he loves being on the telly/ radio, with Fat Sam as his assistant!

But will the players play for a new manager, Askey said he'd never met so many selfish individuals, maybe Sylla and MacDonald weren't the only ones and weve still got some to upset the dressing room spirit?
How many managers have Fev, Fergy, and Grey seen off so far?

Agree with that! Not likely as Raj would not want any more costs onboard. Not even just expenses till the end of the season. Sweeney is a certainty... as is the eventual end of his long service with us.

If this takeover is imminent, with a big emphasis on the word IF, then maybe the new owners have a manager in mind and may have already sounded him out.
Also I wouldn't be surprised if the new consortium of Pools fans included Jeff Stelling.

If this takeover is imminent, with a big emphasis on the word IF, then maybe the new owners have a manager in mind and may have already sounded him out.
Also I wouldn't be surprised if the new consortium of Pools fans included Jeff Stelling.

a lot depends on how imminent the take over actually is. if by imminent it means bu the end of january then its sensible to just have a caretaker in charge. much longer than that, especially if things cannot be turned around on the pitch we need someone appointing given the position we are in.
