Even the ‘mighty’ Chesterfield conceded against Southport.

That'll be enough for the doorsteps to latch onto - couldn't keep a clean sheet, only playing 9 etc
Personally I couldn't give a toss if we concede every game as long as we outscore the opposition, no matter how weak the opposition is.

shows how pointless it is thinking its game over at half time. i,ll take 5 second half pools goals every week unless the opponents score more than 4 in the game.

Agree with you both Snowy and PTID but for f....s sake is this some kind of record that Pools have embarked on. A clean sheet away back in the summer. When was the last one?

The goal they got. Simple free kick from 20 yards out and 4 in the wall. They stroke it into the back of the net. Dixon couldn't see a thing. Second half we played and they lost players and tired. Cracking ground though for two small clubs ground sharing.weather was terrible

Yes, the comments before half time look a bit silly now - thank God  Don't think I've ever been happier to be dragged out for the Christmas shopping - I really didn't want to be listening to that game on the radio.

A lower league side at home in a cup tie takes an early lead - who'd have thunk it? Still, I'm glad I wasn't gnawing the ends of my fingers waiting for an equaliser with the rest of you.

For the record, there's half a dozen NL sides gone out today to lower level clubs and a couple more scraped through on penalties. The draw for the next round could be very interesting - let's hope Pools get a home tie.

Do not give a flying fart about clean sheets - there's no extra points available for them. It was obvious even before Mancini and Dodds got injured that Pools' season was going to be about scoring more goals than the opposition.

I know what you’re saying and even I have got to the stage where I’d like to see us keeping a clean sheet…but at the end of the day it’s points on the board and not necessarily clean sheets that get you up the league…but it helps if we do.

Weather was atrocious and got even worse in the 2nd half. Any high ball mainly got caught up in the swirling wind or went flying out on the touchline (the one without the dugouts). Even though they had a player sent off with about 25 min left, I was still amazed we ended up scoring 5. We did 'out pass' them for the majority of the game, but apart from the disallowed goal and a good save from their goalie, didn't create much 1st half. Reckon they were jut over 100 poolies there, but mind you the home fans hardly flocked there (500?)
Anyway, we're into the hat for the next round, anyone but Chesterfield please! :)

Yeah I guess so. The Kevin Keegan philosophy out score the opposition which we did. 2-1 against Chesterfield will be fine as will 3-2, 4-3 or more even 7-4! Bring it on Pools. New year revelation: Mani D says I would never leave HUFC for Manure or anybody else. Thanks Mani. Made my Christmas.

It's got to be a case of playing to our strengths at the moment, that for me means pressing and attacking from the off because we simply can't defend well for 90 mins. Plus we seem to have very little luck with seemingly every loose ball or deflection in our box resulting in a goal, whereas ours seem to end up behind the goal.
Of course we need to tighten up at the back, but without diminishing our goalscoring threat if at all possible, you can't win a game just by keeping clean sheets you have to score goals.
2 wins from 5 games is better than 5 goalless draws.

From a fan's perspective, struggling to score goals is worse. The spell of 13 consecutive games without scoring after Pools beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in the FA Cup (with a penalty!) was pure torture.

It wasn't much better a few seasons later when Pools drew 23 out of 46 league games - and finished 17th.

it was the draws that cost us our league place last season and not just the defeat by crawley. as PTID said rwo wins in 5 is better than 5 draws. for me at the vic a draw feels like a defeat even a one where we made a comeback.

lowest ranked side at home with other national league sides playing each other will do fine. due to the conditions i wonder how many fans of both clubs especially them just gave it a miss. conditions do not bother me if i,m going somewhere i know but not in todays world when i have never been there before.

you would think so, but why didn,t they in the first place. a bit like kemp last season where you,d have thought someone would have gone in for him with serious money or get into the mk side and not being loaned out yet again. possibly its both players are things from the past who do not fit into todays player mould by fitting well into rigid systems and they are too individual. something us fans like to see but possibly not managers.

With hindsight they do look silly now, but they weren’t without foundation to be fair.

possibly they had a better reasons to show some negativity than those who thought positivly had with the evidence they had before them. if pools had got beat it would not have been the biggest ever shock in football being similar to brentford being beaten at crawley in the fa cup.

We were losing to the city of Liverpool i dont think any comments look silly. Shows how far our standards are dropping, when we are relieved to have beaten a ten man team 3 leagues lower. Lets hope for a decent draw in the next round what is it 4 wins from wembley?

As someone else pointed out, a game isn't over till the ref blows the final whistle. Against a side several levels below Pools you'd expect superior fitness to count later on if nothing else. At least I would.

Its not over it still doesnt change the fact that until they lost a man we really struggled. If we concede early again next week we are going to have major problems.

Does anybody know when the 4th round draw takes place?

Also I'm assuming it's regional (north/ south) as this round appeared to be- so should avoid Bromley on that basis. Just got to hope it's not Cheaterfield away

Unless the first offer is unrejectable. Far fetched but stranger things have happened. I would be more worried about us not acting fast enough to renew his contract and losing him for nowt, whenever that may be.

According to the official site match report we were on top for all of the match, and we'd already equalised before they had a man sent off.
So not sure where the assertion we struggled while they still had 11 men on the pitch comes from?
Strange events cup ties when form quite often goes out of the window as a few of the bigger clubs found out yesterday.

Just saw the interview with their manager, insisted the scoreline flattered us, as they had us on the back foot until we equalised …and of course the unfair sending off.

It doesn't look as if a strict regional split is possible - The first 13 teams in the draw will be from the north or Midlands but the other 19 are all in the south
