I know most Poolies won't care, and I don't but this is quite bizarre. They are hardly one of the big spenders in the championship and are currently 9th in the table. Only won 3 of their past 10 games though, so I guess in today's football world that is a reason to sack someone. I like Tony Mowbray, what you see is what you get and he doesn't give a sh1t.

3 points of a play off place as well, who is going to their next manager in the firing line then, another manager with a track record of being sacked,Lampard will be throwing his hat into the ring I bet as he is usually tipped when there is a managerial vacancy going.

Considering they sell any even half decent players at the drop of a hat he's done a good job with kids and bargain shop signings, a ridiculous decision. Probably had too good a start to the season, can't see anyone doing any better with the squad that's available.

Nowadays no manager is safe, there’s no patience from owners or supporters and sometimes a derby loss is a trigger, even though it’s only three points in the great scheme of things.
Sunderland’s image is now of a bang average Championship side with a big stadium and mediocre passing owners passing through on a conveyor belt…..a long, long way from the ‘Bank of England ‘ club title they held, even if it was pretentious bollobcks.

Have fantastic support though, averaging just under 41k at the top of the crowds table, that's over 5k more than Leeds and 9k more than Leicester.per game. Many Premiership clubs could only dream of support that good.

again the size of crowds are no guarentee where a team is going to be in their league nowadays.

The saying goes a manager is only ever one game away from the sack, in the media Sheff. Utd are going to sack their manager but as yet they haven't told him.

They do have great fans, but without great owners they’re just customers.

But if Leeds and Leicester had stadiums with a 48k capacity would Sunderland still be getting more than them?

Good question, although I notice Elland Road capacity is 38790, and they've not achieved that this season, also Leicesters is 32261 and they've only achieved one crowd over 32k this season.

Too far from home- obviously rules him out!

That seems like a crazy decision on the face of it- can only assume they've got a big name lined up- my sauce tells me Paul Hartley, Graeme Lee and Keith Curle are the front runners (though Keith might be busy- still in the middle of his missus)! bbolt

My alternative list of chancers is Stevie G, Lampard, Steve Bruce again, Martin Scott (got to have a former player, regardless of how inept), Danny Cowley but probably more like Colin Wanker's last dance before he rocks up at Pools, just before his 80th B'day!

on paper mowbray looked a good fit with them. really its hard to see anyone getting them back to the promised land again. like boro they are what they are a mid table championship club who will continue having good and bad seasons without achieving much. at least their fans get a dream 3rd round cup draw though.

Distance is no object if you have ambitions and the salary is 3 more than he is getting at Stockport, football managers are mercenary.

It’s not about his limitations, it’s about tho salary and also it’s the compensation, 3 year contract, sacked after a season and he would be a millionaire.

doubt any manager who walks into a job is thinking about compo though if he gets the sack. the good thing though about getting the sack from sunderland will certainly not stop him being employed again in a similar job. being sacked by pools is akin to being on skid row.
