Jamie, this bollocks been going on for years, when the Greek President came over it was on the understanding that the topic would not be raised at this point in time, he chose to ignore that request, his problem
As for the marbles, they were purchased from the Ottoman government quite legally when they were found by the side of the Parthenon after the local’s accidentally blew it up after using it as an explosives warehouse in the 1800’s. Other countries also got involved in removing artefacts legall by purchasing them.
Whether they go or stay I couldn’t give a toss actually, but the idea they were looted or stolen is a myth……coincidentally, if they hadn’t been removed they would no longer exist as there was no interest in them at the time and it’s only in the past 20 years have the Greeks had the ability to preserve them in a controlled atmosphere….I wonder if the Romans want their wall back sctatchinghead

agree but other towns shut their underpasses before the council did. any now left will be seen as tourist attractions and the graffiti classed as local modern art with rough sleepers giving interviews and tours once a hour.

To be fair, no one was using it, for obvious reasons.

Yes these were the marbles (allys) we use to play in the playground of Elwick Road Juniors. They fitted great into the grates that had small holes.

If you’re looking for a smoke screen, I doubt you’d use the Elgin marbles…..there’s hardly gonna be marches down Whitehall about it.
Besides which, half the countries so illiterate they’ll think the ‘Elgin Marbles’ is a kitchen worktop supplier.

No- have to disagree, it was a sewer and always felt unsafe- even during the day. I used it when I went to the Art College on a daily basis for about a year or so, until they put the pelican crossing opposite Wilkinson's/ Binns Corner. I'm quite a big bloke- certainly wouldn't want to have been of the female persuasion using the underpass. :o

Isn't it a shame that the pretendy journalists that we suffer today can't report these basis facts and don't get me going on Windrush!

Sunak needs another smoke screen as the Home Office officials have admitted they do not know the whereabouts of more than 17,000 asylum seekers whose claims have been discontinued.

The issue is of course is that it is absolutely no surprise! The Home Office is a byword for gormless incompetency. It is a moot point as to wether the HO employs woke lefties who are not bothered about implementing government policy or are they just rubbish at their jobs.

When you apply and are granted a 6 month visitor visa (my Thai partner has had 3 visas) to the U.K. you pass through Border Control no further checks are carried out after the 6 months expires, no one comes looking for you so in effect you can stay as long as you like and work in the black economy.

I wasn't aware of this but again, I am not surprised. I guess when you outstay your visa you can still access free health care by turning up at A and E.

Our trouble is the one’s now in charge are a product of a soft society and Uni’s that indoctrinate instead of educate.
They are gormless, gullible and have never got their hands dirty or really struggled in their lives…and really believe we all share their smug values.
The working class in this country are looked down on by all Party’s in a way even a Victorian industrialist would think twice about.

there are university,s across the developed world. do not know if there products are as arrogant as the ones we produce. from my experiance even in the distant pass change so much in personality after a few months as students and it takes years on end for them to become the person they were originally before they went. now its like football managers, coaches and players who really have no time for fans because either they have no coaching badges or have played the game at a decent level like them. do not think the working man will ever be forgiven for there vote for brexit when in their eyes their betters due to education wanted to remain.

Back in 2009 my youngest daughter had finished her first year and the course was unceremoniously dumped as the college needed the space for overseas (Chinese) students…£$£$… it was as brutal as that.
She went off and got a retail management trainee post and never looked back.

I always thought education should be available to our citizens of any age before we train other people’s students. Uni’s are just businesses, that’s why there’s so many.

much easier said than done when even parents now put money aside for their days at university before they can walk. at least once a kid from an average family knew they had achieved something by gaining a university degree their parents never had by hard work and not just an extention of 6th form anyone can do like the right of schooling itself.

In this case no, they f#&ked up but wasted a year of her life.
Like I said Jamie they’re not places of learning but financial whores lining their pockets, that’s why there’s so bloody many of them,
