I’m always staggered by the queues at the drive - thru’s at peak times…..I suspect there’ll be an epidemic of diabetes in 20 years time.

When the Flying Scotsman passed through Northants a few years ago- there was absolute hell on- big crowds turned up to see it, cameras paused ready for the big moment and just as it was about to pass through - the biggest Freight train ever going in the opposite direction, blocked the views of the vast majority!

I had plans to go down to Pompey in 2005 to see the Fleet Review for the 200th anniversary of Trafalgar….all sorted then had to cancel because the wife had to go away for a meeting with work.
I was incandescent…..and she said to “Don’t worry, we’ll go to the one next one”, as they only come up every 100 years, it may prove both optimistic and impossible..

I’m surprised at particularly over the past 20 years near where we live the three butchers have closed, two bakers have closed one general dealers who was like ‘Open all hours’ and the paper shop and two smaller shops .
All replaced by kebab shops, pizza shops, booze shops, nail bars and one of those empty barber shops….. and not for the better.

if you really want to get depressed then walk down the main street of any northern town in this country to see how low this country now is. most interesting thing is reading all the signs about telling you the things you cannot do. going back to another topic, dog crap does not look out of place on the pavements of many. cannot really think of anything thats improved our lives over the years from politicians upwards.

The average young person appears to have the inability to cook food from fresh ingredients or they are too lazy and can’t do their own nails.
Most supermarkets have done away with butchers, fresh fish, and the delicatessen counters, every thing is pre packed in trays on the shelves now.

problem is there are so many couples bring up kids working full time they just have not got the time or energy to make meals from scratch for themselves or the family. its easier to just do a prepared meal which is better than a takeaway which is the option for many. when you pass or go into a butcher that is still left its usually the older end buying stuff from them.

My Mother had 3 part time jobs and always made cooked meals, when I was married we both worked but the same all home cooked food from fresh ingredients, it is laziness , most of the younger generation couldn’t boil an egg. Have a look at the preservatives on a ready meal, scary. The younger generation love to have a nice to look at kitchen but never use it.

The figures are already through the roof and climbing. I was told by a nurse refyellow after a blood test (HbA1c) that i was pre diabetic so i cut out sweets, chocolate and cake (red list refred )plus i put a few things on the redish refyellow refred list that aint to good for you like pies, pasties, crisps, sausages and bacon (and any processed stuff).
I did it for 6 months and now my blood tests are normal.
Beer and wines are on the green list. :-D

My dad brought home a brand new leather football autographed by the Pools team in the mid 60’s …well, until me mam pointed out it was odd the names were all in the same handwriting :angry-tappingfoot:

Porters and luggage on railway platforms and people waiting patiently or otherwise and being sensible not having to be bellowed at for standing behind the yellow line or being subjected to see it say it sort it and all that nonsense. Saw a poster the other day in my local station saying staring is an offence and won't be tolerated. Anyone remember the machines on the station that dispensed chocolate, matches and chewing gum. Almost forgot, those machines that you stamp out on a metal strip any letters to spell your name or whatever. What use were they?

We were talking one night about things you did in the juniors, games etc and the wife said they used to write down door numbers sctatchinghead sctatchinghead sctatchinghead ….baffled..I asked if they ever noticed a pattern as they were writing them down……still never got a sane answer.
They also collected bus numbers….but as the only bus passing their house was the No 6, it must have got monotonous….. crazy stpid

The Number 6 was (is?) the best bus. When I was a nipper it got me from The Powlett roundabout to nearish to school (Brinkburn) or my Nans (Alston Street). When I was a teenager it could get even get me all the way to to the Fens where my girlfriend lived (and back - unless I left it too late and had a bastard long walk ahead of me).

When I was a nipper we used to hang from the back of the no6 bus by our finger tips just to get to the next stop and look cool in front of ya mates. But sods law for whatever reason it always used to pass the next stop leaving you hanging on for dear life. Funny thing was the cars behind never seemed to slow down allowing a small child to drop from the bus but instead stayed so close you knew for a fact you would die if your grip failed rakxe

When I was 9 me and my brother aged 8 had been to Seaton and along with the two lads over the road from us the same age..we walked over the steelworks bridge and caught the number 6 bus …lovely summers evening and as we approached Brierton Lane to get off, we all got on the platform and were hanging out when we decided to see who’d ‘parachute first’…. We all hesitated, but Colin our neighbour decided to go for glory……and the reason we hesitated was because the bus wasn’t stopping….leaping to glory at 25mph is a bad idea when you’re any age but at 9 it’s traumatic as sheer joyful elation turns to naked fear. How we laughed as he writhed on the ground, kids can be sadistic little twats.
In hospital for two weeks off school for three months….like kids of that age we wondered if he’d struck gold as he was sat on the settee and we were at school. sadx
I’ll be honest here, me and our kid were on most snotty parents avoid us if you want your kids to live list…funnily enough it was all pretty harmless stuff.

Toasted Sandwich Maker, we had one many years ago, ended up in the bottom of a cupboard never used, my partner mentioned she would like one the other week. I bought one, guess where it is now, in the bottom of the cupboard next to the omelette maker !

The Thais swear by an ointment called Zambuk, they use it for cuts, bruises, burns, rashes, insect bites etc. Active ingredients are eucalyptus oil and camphor oil both herbal, it actually does work, I have tried it.
