When he turned up at school it was like the Gestapo turning up. I went down to the school dental surgery in Park Road with a classmate who was in for an extraction….he went in while waited in the waiting area…..after about five minutes he could be heard speaking then awful groaning sounds and what sounded like a slap followed by muted groans… a lass from the girls high school looked at me and legged it down the stairs ….. quickly followed by me…never to return.

That got shelved due to a lack of jobs and probably because anybody watching didn't want work anyway.

It has reminded me of borer fans ONE original and mildly amusing chant they had when Joseph Desiree Job played up front for them - 'Only One Job on Teesside!'

Old school mate of mine moved to Australia in 1990. He came home for a month in 2020 and I drove him all around the town and he was gobsmacked by the changes. He said its almost unrecognisable which really saddened him. He could see millions had been spent but thought the town was much worse for it. He also noticed that areas all over town had stopped in time with virtually no improvement at all yet marina & town centre had millions spent on them.

By any chance, did he notice all the money that was spent pedestrianising the bottom end of Church Street- for it NOT to be pedestrianised? sctatchinghead refred

Somebody got a massive wedge there, for not doing what had been proposed - on that basis I would like to receive a huge sum for NOT tarmacing the access road behind the Mill House Stand  bbolt

Church Street was done by the TDC in 1996….the trees were just maturing, the the Akers-Belchers decided to totally re-jig it and make it worse.
Expensive wonky seats that looked like they’d been designed by Picasso after a night on the tiles, Street lights that dazzle you when driving it took forever and ended up looking like an East German workers paradise circa 1956.
Best of all was when they re-did Stockton Street and announced it was ‘Destination Hartlepool’ as visitors to Hartlepool would realise where they where when they hit that bit of Stockton Street…..well surely any visitor would have known where they were going when they set out to come here… .did they think random idiot drivers would drive in not knowing where they where and scream with delight as they entered that bit of road with it’s suicidal safety barriers. Dummies.

Looking at the 3D images of York, which need updating , it shows Bootham Crescent just about cleared with the main stand foundations all that remains.
I would like to know the story behind that because York City not at Bootham Crescent is just not right. sadx

Didn’t they replant more trees ?
The worst thing the Council ever did was to fill in the pedestrian underpass, it stopped all the traffic backing up and people running across the road on a red light.

thing is i will not knock them for that decision. all over the country these have been filled in possibly due to incidents in them. not places for women on there own when its quiet. best thing would have been to put gates over the entrances between certain hours and leave them open when busy.

can say the same thing about every club who has moved grounds. has it improved anything for fans once they moved and where did the money go on any profit they made from selling the old ground to build another. remember when scunthorpe sold the old show ground and they thought the good times were there for life after that. must admit yorks decision for away fans must have been the worst.

Completely agree Snowy

Purely due to the town's geography - it's not a place you drive through by accident unlike the vast majority medium/ large towns- you're either drivng to the Hart of the Pool or you're not! (Same as when I lived in Hull, only 'Ull is ten times bigger)

I think it's a simple one Snowy, and that's money.
That land in the centre of York will be worth an absolute fortune. Property prices there are insane.

Unlike Pools, where the Vic - (god forbid it was ever sold for housing) would literally be worth fuck all. No one would want to live in a house opposite the railway line- With Morrison's one side, Cameron Road the other and close to the dreaded shopping centre!

Only way I reckon it could work. was if it was a new council estate - again think it highly unlikely as developers only want to build expensive executive houses as they're greedy bastards and it's all about the balance sheet!

Wasn't there an early nineties version of that advert with a woman in a rolled top free standing bath that was overflowing as she was too busy sucking on a flake!?

The advert that always used to amuse me and that was used for donkeys years was for Turkish Delight.
Sultry bird in the desert wielding a huge fuck off machete to cut a bar of chocolate in two! clappp

Don't get me wrong the advert worked as I bought ONE- only to be conned as there is nothing delightful about said bar- absolutely fucking minging. refred

Though I did put part of the huge disappointment down to being ill equipped, by just opening it with my bare hands! :angry-tappingfoot:

Live band nights in the Catcote and The Queens, The Hafta Dakks, The Hartbeats etc, great nights….. and not forgetting the pre match “ entertainment” in the Clippy club, unless the cops raided it!

Loved it when the ‘plain clothes coppers’ came in looking for underaged drinkers, and all they did was take their tunic jacket off and put on another jacket it was so bleedin obvious,…more of a warning to get out ….unless the kids were totally bladdered (after 2 pints).

I don’t see much value in the Vic and surrounding land, we have enough shopping outlets, no good for luxury housing maybe rental property/Social Housing.
A hotel might work as Hartlepool has a limited number of decent hotels, maybe Raj could build a hotel and a Care Home ?

A hotel might work as Hartlepool has a limited number of decent hotels, maybe Raj could build a hotel and a Care Home ?

Well the grand has had a big revamp is about to re-open and work is well under way on turning the Wesley into a hotel.
Even the Premier down the Premier is one their most popular and has been extended three times as proof of the pudding
The Vic is probably the best site for a new Leisure Centre, the marina location is a bit way out for kids and public transport.

Darlo and York City games. Especially Bootham Crescent away.

Looking at the 3D images of York, which need updating , it shows Bootham Crescent just about cleared with the main stand foundations all that remains.
I would like to know the story behind that because York City not at Bootham Crescent is just not right. sadx

I don’t see much value in the Vic and surrounding land, we have enough shopping outlets, no good for luxury housing maybe rental property/Social Housing.

Snowy have you ever priced the Premier Inn, I just checked, cheapest room is £180 a night, I stayed in a hotel on Seaton Green in August, it was very £65 a night, I would highly recommend it.
The location of the Leisure Centre has been decided, land that nobody wanted bought by the Council I think for a million pounds. Some one made a few quid when the building was demolished for the scrap steel.

I know exactly how much it costs, the wife drives me crazy with her addiction to hotel prices ( like I care  ) Most of their bookings are business bookings so they get a discount so she informs me, but we aren’t the targets …last time we used one was 2010 and it was £80 a night then!
The Leisure Centre was always gonna be down there just because it’s the marina, simple as that.

As for Bootham Crescent …I’m surprised it lasted so long in that location, we know it’s about the money, but I was just mourning the loss of a familiar location.
