Jimmy Saville drama, should the BBC be making stuff liKe this after all he was employed by them and many of their employees knew what he was upto. Should we be dramatising a sexual predator ?

Technically it was an ITV production but you are right the BBC should not be showing this.

Watched a few minutes and it must be me but I thought Coogan looked nothing like SaVILE.

Its not a pleasant watch but the story needs telling as abusers like him are still out there and need to be exposed.
And its not just sexual abusers it often afflicts many people in power.

Isn’t that a bit like Adolf Hitler doing a documentary on the Nazi’s.

I am sure GB news would broadcast that.

Actually GB News has more diverse panels than the mainstream channels and Talk TV too….. your conservative BBC bias is showing.

I agree 100%. I spread it over two nights as I found it very difficult to watch, and almost turned it off last night due to a certain scene. Even after watching it, I still find it Incredible that he got away with all that - and it took me some time to get to sleep afterwards.

Should they have made it? My mind is still not made up as to that question.

Today I'm 51% to 49% that it should have, but I understand and accept anyone's opinion that it shouldn't have been.

I always liked the ‘Victor’….playing Japs and Commandoes ….wonder what kids play now…. ‘Accountants and Customs and Excise’ doesn’t quite have the same appeal.

The scene in the BBC offices where they were talking to Savile about him possibly fronting a new music show called Top of the Pops - as well as Bill Cotton being there, there was also a female executive there who expressed doubts about him getting the nod. She said she had heard about his reputation on Radio Luxembourg and wasn’t keen on him being appointed.

I would be interested to know if there really was a female executive present at this meeting and if she did in fact express any misgivings about Savile. I suspect not, and would suggest that it’s just the BBC trying to cover its tracks…

Not an easy watch but I though it was very well done and Steve Coogan put in an incredibly powerful performance which is witnessed by the fact that so many found it uncomfortable viewing. I get the question mark over whether the BBC should have shown it but you have to give credit that they did.

Watched the first one felt sick after watching it, not sure I want to watch anymore of it, Saville got away with it, even the fella at the hospital had his doubts, Saville was pure evil, control freak.

Have seen the first three episodes on BBC I player and get the impression that it is a cover up by the BBC almost denying any responsibility. It seems to centre on persons mistakes else where. How many times can one person be implicated in such serious crimes yet was able to talk his way out of them with no further action. Even his own mother had her doubts but was blinded by the awards of his OBE and knighthood .

at the time you have to remember he was some type of god to many. On his funeral the whole of look north evening programme was declared to him and his funeral. just imagine you had been a victim of the bloke who would have really believed you at the time. do not think it was a cover up either due to this. if he had been squeeky clean there would be a crank somewhere having a pop or accusation against you. he is yesterdays version of ant and dec, never off the screen and if they had a similar history to the beloved jimmy who would believe them even in todays changed world. i never liked the guy but have received stick in the past though for my take on him.

I agree BBC complicit with Saville so for them to be involved with the drama a bit rich. However, I thought it was a compelling drama which is brilliantly acted by Coogan. I know it’s a difficult subject but thought the story needed telling. Still a lot of abuse about

It shouldn’t have been the BBC who made it.
They turned a blind eye by all reasonable accounts.
Like I said earlier, you wouldn’t askHitler to make a similar programme about the Nazi’s

well you would not pay tax and insurance for a car if you never owned one or a sky subcription if you never watched it. wish there were television engineers who could block bbc from my set so i could watch the rest without paying for something i do not use.

Jim’ll fix it was on tv from 1975 to 1994, the programme was devised by Saville ? my daughter cringes as she wrote several requests to appear on the show but was never successful.

she might cringe now but imagine at the time she would have been disappointed. thats the problem with the bloke who was loved once but hated now. we need to turn our clocks back to the height of his popularity just to see how most were conned by him and not just look at the events that came out after his death.

You got to remember that paedos are very cunning. Most know what they are doing but don’t see it as wrong. Paedos are present at all levels of society. Jonathan King, Rolf Harris, Cyril Smith to name a few. I played tennis in Harrogate at a club and there was a guy there who always took pleasure in commenting on young girls . Never saw him with a gf either. He had a persuasive personality like Savil and was reasonably well liked at the club. He once took a seventeen years old girl to Wimbledon staying the night. Nothing was said. Later some of commented on his quirks but nothing was done. Similar to Savile people would say it’s just Dave. When he went to Wimbledon he was probably my age or older . I’m guessing around 64. As far as I know he is still around!

they have exisited since time began. they were once taken with kids as a big joke where groups of kids gave en some verbal stick if seen outside and were called dirty old men whatever age they might have been. being a paedo now is the last no go in our society but at 17 i started going out with a 14 year old lass for years to eventually get engaged until she went to cambridge university and changed. would that put me on the sexual offenders register in todays world i wonder.

The title at the very end said it was an ITV Studios production.
