They have been deducted 10 points

Southend United deducted 10 points following 'final' 42-day deadline to find buyer - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66591344

Said before. No sympathy for the club but plenty for the fans. Hope they manage to stay in this league although a miracle needs to happen with off the field events. Have to say though if it were Pools...

On the subject of points deductions. Pools had a 1 point deduction for fielding an ineligible player and it was accepted it was a genuine administrative error. Reading have just been docked points and Wigan, well they are in that deduction league as well. Luton got a 30 point deduction and many years ago when I was a kid I remember Swindon Town being demoted a couple of divisions. Does anyone remember when The Boro (when in the plastic league got deducted points? Something connecting sick notes and unable field a team which the league did not buy. And meanwhile Spurs were deducted 9 points and appealed and guess what they won but Boro lost their 3 points and I believe they were relegated. Anybody reading this and finding errors in what I say - no offence for correcting me. I seem to think the big boys get away with lesser punishments and that goes for players having cards and suspensions.

Borer did indeed lose 3 points for failing to field a team at Blackburn in the January of that season . Think they went down by 1 possibly 2 points- basically had they fielded the reserves for the game at Blackburn, they'd have stayed up. I think it was also the same glorious season that they lost both cup finals! Oooh how I laughed!

What did chesterfield get away with that means me and my sister ( and others) call them cheatersfield?
I can't even remember even though the name has stuck.

Basically what happened as I remember it was that the players had 2 contracts- one that was sent to the FA and a second one which was kept in house- which was basically a slush fund of gate money which they dished out to the players in notes which meant the tax man was also kept out of the loop.

The reason why it's Cheaterfield is that this all came to light towards the end of the season and they won the league that year from memory.
What grated with the Pools fans was that the points deduction they received from memory was no more than 6 points- but given how far ahead they were in the league, made zero impact on their quest for promotion. Top 3 going up automatically and Pools finished 4th. Think that was the seasons we lost to Blackpool- when Drummond got arrested for having a blowup sex doll in a Pools shirt whilst dressed as Hangus, which got him ejected from Bloomfield Road!

The Poolies point of view was that Cheaterfield should have just been stopped from being promoted regardless- we would then have taken the last automatic spot, instead of the lottery of the playoffs.

Yes the punishment was dished out after the FA knew how many points they would have to take it off to make it meaningful.
And we got dicked in the playoffs against a v good Blackpool side who had Ormerod playing 3 leagues below his standard

At the end of the day, the borers went down on their performance over the season, clinging onto the myth that those three points deducted were to blame.
In fact it was self inflicted and a poor excuse to boot.

Those 3 points did make the difference though, on 5heir performances over the season they did enough to stay up they had enough points without the deduction.
The biggest injustice is that the FA are not consistent with punishments, some clubs get away with murder whilst others get over the top sanctions for similar offences. Whilst it's difficult to legislate for everything, surely once a precedent has been set it should apply consistently to every subsequent case?
Can't argue against the fact that once the FA told them they had to play they should have fielded a team though - mind they would've probably been deducted 3 points for fielding a weakened side if they had.

thought there was something they did more recently in the covid period that other clubs did not do that bordered on being illegal but not very morral. something about furloughs but i have slept since then.

That rings a bell, Mr A.
Think they furloughed everybody but the first 11, including injured and squad players- can't remember the exact details but it was unsavoury and not in the spirit that the fund was intended.
