Whose got them and are they an investment for the older generation to get their money back after so many years or will the grim reaper burst out laughing?

Also heard that they have a "shelf life" of 20/25 years and there will be a major problem in disposing of these panels in a few years time.

Got them 10 years ago and paid £6,100 for the installation and have had around £5.000 back in F.I.T. payments plus around the same in free electric so been worth it for me.

I looked into getting them. There are online calculators where you put in the roof surface area and it works out estimated earn based on that and your angle to the sun. I think it was £7 k to fit and I'd save £200 a year. But every 10 years you had to spend another £800 for a new battery. Wasn't for me but think a lot depends on the installation, the type, the supplier and tariff you sell at (which isn't great). Oh and if you have a spare £7k - £10k laying around!

Got them in late 2011 just before the feed in tariffs were significantly reduced, on the basis that (1) we aren't ever moving house; (2) the income they generate is RPI-indexed, so am now getting 60.23p for every Kw produced, up from 43.3p in 2012; (3) feed in payments last for 25 years (4) panels' production likely to decline after 20-25 years but will still generate some electricity.

For the older generation, I suggest you need a battery to store the leccy you don't immediately use, otherwise the panels are unlikely to be cost effective. If you do decide to get them, maximise the coverage of your roof as the marginal cost is little compared to the marginal income

The tidal generators seem like a genuine winner, the tides are completely predictable every hour of the day unlike the wind and sun, but the trouble is …every time a tidal barrage is proposed the eco warriors oppose them sctatchinghead

Exactly Snowy, Severn barrier was going to generate a load of electricity, in steps eco warriors and it’s stopped.
I would to as a Just Oil protester after I had just run him/her over what their energy alternatives are ?

Have to build a dam, the eco warriors wouldn’t want that though.

The tidal barrages are the best option along with dams, talk of offshore moored tidal turbines would be subject to the ‘mood’ of the seas and the sea is a cruel lady.

guy gibson liked em though. seriously just bugger that minority as they cannot just have everything they want just to suit them. i,d still be mining british coal to power the national grid and i,m sure there would be as many who support me as those who support all the green ideas thought up.

All the parties are going to back green energy because they are afraid of losing votes to the Green Party.

then yet again we are faced with the prospect of having no real alternative in who we vote for or get the alternative view point. its like covid all over again. disagree with the narative then you are a granny killer. disagree with the green agenda you become a climate crisis denier. its seems its an issue just with the western world where you never hear of the same in asia or south america. even the protesters you see seem to have little support from our immegrant population and their decendents.

We just need politicians to stand up and tell us the truth about their policies for the next election which apparently they don’t appear to be able to do.

There is Scientific Consensus about both climate change and Covid Vaccines, this isn’t an opinion, it’s a logical conclusion based on all available peer reviewed research available at the time. You can choose whether you care about the consequences of deciding not to follow it, but you can’t disagree with it unless you have your own peer-reviewed research that proves it to be incorrect or at least brings the logic of the conclusion into doubt.

You might as well claim that the earth is a disc resting on the top of four elephants, stood on top of a huge turtle flying through space.

well some would have believed that until they were proved incorrect. no one can deny those that do not follow any narrative have been silenced like never before. banned of youtube for quoting from a medical journal. science has never been a total accurate field where if you wish you can find one equally expert in the field to debunk another. really its the ones whose ideas are closer to your that you will believe at the outset. its gone down so low where experts are concerned that the ones who say a woman can have a penis seem to be the ones with the popular opinion and god help you if you disagree.
