For all the difference it’ll make…the entire Headland is a 20 mph, but no one seems to take any notice….you have to police them to make it work but no one does anything like that anymore, so it’s all window dressing.

Instal CCTV with number recognition and speed cameras, I am sure that would go down well or instal speed humps then people complain it damages the suspension, no win situation as Snowy say unless policed and we don’t have the number of Police to do it.

are the police actually interested in these 20mph limits. a few near me but even the police ignore them. are they actually there to keep people driving at the original speed limits in the area 30mph. would not mind if they were around schools with lights showing that limit when kids are going and coming from school and backed up by speed cameras and parking restrictions being enforced.

those signs in welsh then english got me lost going to cardiff as the time i found the english sign i,d gone past the road i wanted. made that day at cardiff even worse. cardiff, you,ll find more welsh speakers in darlo.

Cant the parish council sort this from the precept they receive ?

If it was the Police who introduced the 20mph limit they might take an interest but I believe it’s the Council who decide what the local speed limits are.

Good example on the Tees Road, the speed limit on Stockton side of Greatham Creek is 60 mph and on the Hartlepool side 50 mph

It's always amazed me that most cars have top speeds of 120-150 mph, especially when most roads are 70 mph max, if the government wanted to improve the death rates on the roads and help the police catch speeders/fts drivers they should introduce laws to restrict the speed of younger drivers/formally banned to say 60 for the first year or two of driving, then they would have more respect for the speed and less likely to kill themselves or anybody else.

Trouble with that is the speed they travel at is just part of the equation, their actual driving ability, style of driving and ability to control a car is abysmal, coupled with the fact they’re usually immature dick heads even in their sixties.

it isn,t speed its where its being done. many seem to love speeding on country roads because they can do 60 where realistically 40 is safer. then you catch em up and pass em shortly after getting on to a motorway or duel carriageway. something that regularly happens to me coming up to pools. its not a speed limit for many but a speed they have to reach no matter what the whether or the condition of the road.

think that was mentioned lately by a crime commissioner somewhere. there always seems a group of busy bodies somewhere who would bring the bloke with the red flag back. more interested in speeding than anything else going on in their local areas.

The dream of the freedom of the road is dead. Cars are just transport boxes. It will not be long before speed is satellite tracked and limiters fitted.

We had them in West Lothian for about 18 months, supposedly as a trial, but they were then removed last summer. I'm sure the cost of replacing all the 30 signage with 20 signage and then reversing it was money well-spent!

All that happened was there was more overtaking happening when people who didn't agree with the 20 mph limit decided they wanted to drive at 40 mph as they always did through towns.

its not that they want to do 40 in a town centre its they are being asked to drive at 20 on roads outside the town where for years they drove safely at 30 for the vast majority of the day. get stuck behind one of these 20 mph lovers at say 8 at night you cannot blame anyone overtaking because of the councils yealding to a pressure group.

There's a road i use a lot, it's a nice clear run where the 25mph drivers suddenly accelerate as they approach the speed camera. It's as though a strange mist fogs their heads.One for Arthur C Clarke?

The one just down from Sainsbury’s on Merlin Way, some drivers accelerate to see what speed they can get it to illuminate to.

Specifically along the road I live on there were numerous instances of near misses when people were overtaking moving vehicles (predominantly buses) who were travelling within the 20mph zone. The road simply runs to the town centre (about half a mile away).

I have noticed that Google Maps have now removed the little icon that told you how fast you were travelling, I assume as people were using it rather than the as-design under-reporting speedos on cars.

know quite well from years of bus driving that if you drive one you must be passed no matter what speed you are going and the speed the cars want to go. they overtake you only to get stuck behind them in a short period of time.
