Back in training after 2 months out.

"He’s very close to at least being on the bench which is another plus. He should get a full week’s training,” Askey told The Mail when asked about Cooke.

He's one of those who looks good when Pools are on top rather than under the cosh, but good to have him back.

he is not the only one by a long way who play better when the team is on top. featherstone is a real example of that along with ferguson and even crawfords decent game was when we are winning.

Disagree, started off rough but was surrounded by actual dross. Was starting to come really good under Curle until his injury and was good today. The midfield 3 of Kemp, Sylla and Cooke could keep us up.

agree on that midfield and the cooke situation. would not have been missed at the start of his time but bloody annoying him getting injured just when he did. its a blessing in disguise when some our out injured and cannot be picked but not him when it happened.

Cooke is a player who needs likeminded footballers with ability around him - hes not good enough to change the game on his own but with others around him who are also good then he can change a game - he did this at Bradford and actually tore us a new one when we played them last season !

Sylla was amazing and Kemp again was just class - should of had 2 himself, like Cooke says on another day that goes in at the end.

Ferguson and Sterry were not at the races for me yday - Pruti also needs to learn to give the ball away quicker and make the correct pass when in trouble - again hes young and will learn. Give him another season at this level just like Timi and he be a very very good player

Very strange how he seemed to not want to play him, he's by far and away the best ball winning midfielder we have and will thrive with 2 creative types next to him.

Sylla just mopped everything up - did his job all game and kept the aerial battles won in his favour. I like how he closed down their midfield and broke up as much play as he could - Jennings also did this and was helping out at the back... really like Jennings. Can see him getting a few more goals aswell should his shooting be a bit better

we have been crying out for his type for a long time and when we finally have him he has hardly played but that just shows you how stupid KC was - playing the blackpool loanee instead - absolute shambles man. Had he been playing more games and doing that i think we would have won a few more, certainly drew more and had more points.

KC tried to portray himself as a philosopher of the game but couldn't see what was obviously in front of him.
My theory with Sylla is that Mo and KC didn't see eye to eye.
Now Mo seems to have the role he prefers and has also realised that he has a shot on him. He is playing with a lot more confidence, probably because he now has a manager who realises what he is good at and lets him get on with it. We will probably see that emerge in one or two more players.
We appear now to have a midfield trio who not only can compete but they can also create.
Murray has also improved and is now daddy to the two youngsters alongside him.
As soon as we get Umerah fit again and up front with Jennings I think things will happen, especially if we can keep a settled side for four or five games. Dodds back will be a big boost.
I have a little bit more belief that we can do this.

Maybe Curles philosophy was over the top and was never understood by the players, certainly confused me some times.Cooke in his interview after the Tranmere game did come across as being full of himself but that’s type of player we need some one with a bit of determination.

Sylla needs to be signed up for next year--very good player at this level, no idea why he wasnt starting more

I used to think that about Curle, but quickly realised he’s just a bit odd. There was no other explanation for his eccentric selections and suicidal tactics….’The Charge of the Light Brigade’ translated into footballing terms……to become ‘ The Charge of the Shite Brigade’!

Yes I was some what puzzled by Curle. In his interviews he new exactly what was wrong with Pools and seemed very articulate and perceptive. However, as discussed before by myself and others it carries no weight if you cannot get your ideas over to your players and encourage and motivate them. I watched an excellent interview from John McGovern about how Brian Clough made average players play above themselves. He said Clough was not a tactician but was a psychologist. I now know exactly where he was coming from. Inspiring people and instilling confidence is something very few people have.

listening to clough live once i.d have run through a brick wall for the bloke and then done it in reverse. some of the present managers talk inspires me to start watching another sport.

Curle always came over as a knowledgeable philosopher of the game to me, only trouble being that him and his players in our case appeared to be orbiting different planets…was he talking waffle or where they baffled by ‘big words’….?
I like to work on the assumption that players in general like their instructions to be simple and enforced by a manager with a touch of the bastard in them, fear after all is a great motivator…as is a pat on the head for a job well done.
