As much as it was a great comeback against Wimbledon we conceded 2 soft goals again. I have mentioned in my posts many times now about self awareness, positional awareness (yourself and your colleagues) We cannot keep leaking goals every week if we want to stay in this league. It’s now imperative for the defence to shut up shop.
Please please please I ask whoever plays in defence to man mark, take a marker each and stay tight . Don’t let the opposition turn you. You must be communicating with yourselves and your colleagues for the full 90 mins and don’t try to over complicate anything. Better to just clear the ball in the stands than to play elaborate football. Hartley who I think will play needs to be the spokesperson for the defence and needs to be barking out orders. So please please just keep watching and staying tight. It would be great for moral if we can get a clean sheet. So be passionate and focussed tonight and
Have 100% concentration. It’s not rocket science. I know that and you know that.

would have been much happier with a point on saturday if it was a goaless draw. its not all about mistakes players make at the back but lack of bodies in the area. unless its a different game tonight look at the number of players they,ll have in defensive positions up to us. they can get back to defend so we can.

That’s a great point Accrington. How many times this season have our full backs been out of position when we’ve conceded goals? Look where Dan Dodds is when the first goals at Crewe and Wimbledon went in. Watch the first Sutton goal when the guy runs past Fergy who is ball watching. And that’s just the last three games.

Goalkeeper error is also a factor. The second Crewe goal and the second at Wimbledon were down to the big man. If his predecessor had flapped and pushed it straight to the Crewe guy or knocked it straight to the Wimbledon forward he would have been crucified on the Bunker. I’m not advocating for Killip back by the way.

keeper saves a shot so in theory there is a 50/50 chance of it going to a team mate or not. is it lack of awareness on our part or again lack of numbers. being a struggling side you know luck is rarely on your side and extra effort and thought is needed to overcome this.

It is what it is with Ferguson - any wide player with pace is going to give him problems. With Dodds it's more positional awareness - maybe he could rampage forward at will in the NLN with Darlo but it's asking for trouble in League 2.

If I had a pound when a keeper pushes a shot back into play I would be a millionaire, it happens at every level, they appear afraid to hold on to the ball or push it sideways or over the bar. I’m

a position on the field that does not seem to have improved even at the top. makes you wonder what all these goalkeeping coaches are all about and how much they are really needed. are they actually natural keepers or pushed into it at ab early age because of their height or inability to be an outfield player.

A position created like a Conditioning Coach, Recruitment Consultant etc, after training get the players to fire balls, crosses etc at the keeper, you can’t coach shot stopping collecting crosses into a keeper he either can or can’t catch a ball and I don’t think those gloves they wear nowadays helps them. I played in goals for years never wore gloves and it was the old leather ball as well.

Not convinced by Hartley, at all, constantly the spare man and then giving fouls away

Also is the new keeper really that much of an upgrade from Killip?

It always makes me laugh when they say a goalkeeper is a good shot stopper. He wouldn’t play in goal if he wasn’t. Never heard of a goalkeeper whose weakness was shot stopping.

Yeh the Jury is out a bit on the big lad still tbh - he has shown in glimpses what id expect of a prem keeper making his way through - but as we all know only the select few young Gks make it to the top - this guy will no doubt be plying his trade in the prem a few years down the line in someones first team - Leicester clearly do think alot of him as ive read.

but feck all can be done about it now and am glad hes here and is playing - summer time we need a new No1 end of, regardless of where we are.

Hartley can feck off too hes absolute shite - hes just a bald murray - immobile midget who is way out of his depth back in this level.

we miss Mayo massively tbh. Again we have to recruit a solid CB pairing in the summer.

Ferguson for me is having a stinker along with a few others who have shone previously ! he really needs to sharpen his tools as again id be looking at his replacement come the summer

and the one about the keeper having good distribution which translates in the modern game that he can kick 5 yards to a defender from a goal kick.
