Didn’t have one paced central midfielder on my list of positions most requiring more depth but if he’s an improvement then good luck to him

For the love of god 2 centre backs though please

He can play at centre back quite capably at this level.

The loan thing is echoed on the Newport forum... adds credibility unless it's just echoed from here.

Fair enough has to be a step up from Lacey and murray

as I said on another thread:

He played centre back for Newport over 30 times two seasons ago and was voted their player of the season. They did alright with him there - got to the League 2 play off final at Wembley

Great to have such a versatile player in. Expect he will play at the back to begin with, though with Keith Curle you never quite know - he might try him out as a winger

If this turns out to be true, he is a definite improvement on many of the lads wearing the blue and white.

Would be a slight improvement :angry-tappingfoot:
Imagine the teams around will be going for major improvement.
Obviously the incoming players will have their agents busting a gut to try n get them anutha club with Pools being a last resort.
41 players left since promotion.
Plus the dreaded Home sickness has returned.
Like has been said mimor miracle required to stay up.

Shows you how bad things have got when a player getting released by newport is a supposed major improvement. Let's hope he plays like Gary Liddle for a season or two.

Only 5.8 tall hardly the ideal height for a central defender and very lightweight.

really at the moment a slight improvement is all we need. its not as if pools are going for a late challenge for the play offs. he will be measured on how he performs against the signings others down at the bottom do. not overly excited as it was the type of signing i think most expected. a lot may depend on who else comes in and could be a defensive mid fielder infront of the defence and not an out and out centre back.

Dolan is Newport's club captain. Maybe at this point in his career he just wants to come back to his home area? Might not ideal for Newport's manager but he's decided not to stand in his way? Like Pools did with Byrne? Maybe see how he does for Pools before talking the signing down?

cannot believe how much shit some people talk on here man - absolutely clueless.

Hes head and shoulders above anything we have out on the park at the moment - hes a seasoned pro at this level. Not to mention as another has he is their club captain (for those who think they know about football but dont, just have a think what that means coming into our team with no characters or voices ! ) he can play comfortably in both CB and CM roles which is a bonus for us regardless of who comes back off the sick bench.

hes at the right age - no injury prone record - played at this level for a long time - bang on well done Raj !

Exactly, plenty experience at this level, versatile and importantly a leader! Last time I saw him play for Newport at pools he had a great game, good vision and passing range. It's a good signing for me.

Judge him on his now Pools performances.
To early to slate him or hang out of him.

of course its a good signing with numbers being so low on players who can defend. however its injuries and shortage of certain positions players can play that has hit us harder than sub standard players like hastie and murray. lets just see how he does and if any improvement in the side is gained.

You're too impressed by the bollocks you read on social media Kev. To get anywhere near that figure you have to include all the loan signings made in the last 2 seasons and no-marks Pools did sign but got rid of like Bloomfield, Donaldson, MacDonald, Ofosu, Williams, Carver, Cook, Cullen, Fondop, Lawlor, Olomola, Smith... Any of them you think we should have hung onto?

There's maybe 10 players in the last 2 seasons Pools would have done better to keep if they could match the wages they got elsewhere, and that includes squad players like Hendrie and Francis-Angol.

I must keep a more critical stance on the club. Every time I express concern something gets done. I'll start work on getting us some defenders.

A good signing, definitely.

Not sure saying well done to Raj is quite appropriate. He presided over the mess we are in. Making timely and appropriate managerial appointments and providing the means to sign players who will AT LEAST keep us away from the danger end of the division is bread and butter in my opinion, nothing above and beyond.

But he has held up his hands to his mistakes (sort of) and steps are being made to repair the damage by the looks of it. I hope he learns from this.
